Friday 6th February 2026

Due to the INSET day on Monday, there was no whole school assembly on Monday. However, our phase and singing assemblies carried on as usual on the other days this week. Our aim in all of our different assemblies is to bring the children together to reflect and celebrate belonging to our wider school community.

As the name suggests, phase assemblies are smaller assemblies where children assemble in their phases and think about a range of topics in an age appropriate way. This week, Phase 1 (Years 1 and 2) and Phase 3 (Years 5 and 6) both had assemblies where they explored the Protected Characteristics that exist in UK law and how we can use them to help us respect and look after each other in school. Phase 2 (Years 3 and 4) will be looking at this in their phase assembly next week.

During singing assemblies, the children assemble in their Key Stages to learn and practice a variety of different songs. Mr Mepsted leads the Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) singing assembly each week. The children are currently perfecting "Make Your Own Kind of Music". Mr Marshall leads the singing assembly in Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6). They are currently learning a range of songs including "One and a Million" and "Lean on Me". It is often the songs from these assemblies that often make it into our Big Summer Sing, so listen out for them in term 6!

Reception Grandparents' Morning

The Reception classes invited grandparents into school this week. They talked to the children about games and toys they used to play with, and some grandparents brought in their old toys and photos to look at. We ended the session singing songs that everyone knew. It was a really lovely experience for all.

Year 5/6 Football Competition

Over the last few Mondays, the Year 5/6 football team have participated in the Ashton Park School Sports competition at the Imperial Sports Ground. Both sides represented the school brilliantly. They should be incredibly proud of their teamwork and how they have put in practice everything they have learnt in training. A huge congratulations to the team competing in the developing league who finished as the winners and therefore have qualified for the finals.
