Friday 28th March 2025

As always, during our whole school assembly at the start of the week, the children were set the challenge of being "caught" acting as role models for our school values. Children can be "caught" whilst participating in any aspect of school life and at any point of the day. These children are then presented with a Values Certificate in our Celebration Assembly at the end of the week, with a personal message from their teacher about why they deserve the award.

This week the school value has been determination and our Values Certificate winners are Caitlin, Aila, Arlo, Sennen, Amira, Jasper, Olivia, Jacoby, Leo and Felix.

Year 3 Play in a Week

What an exciting and creative experience for our Year 3s! From designing costumes and sets to rehearsing choreography and lines, the week was packed with energy and creativity. The actors brought their characters to life, while the dancers and musicians added depth and excitement to the performance. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to express themselves and work as a team, showcasing their skills and imagination.

By the end of the week, the students had not only put on a fantastic performance but had also learned valuable lessons in collaboration, responsibility, and the power of creative expression.

Year 1 Animal Visit

Year 1 had an amazing time on Monday with a visit from Rebecca from The Animal Club. She brought in some exciting animals for us to look at and even hold! We learned all about what different animals eat and when they sleep. Some of us even held a snake!

Reception Class Trip to Windmill Hill City Farm

Reception had a lovely day out at Windmill Hill City farm. Couldn't have asked for better weather!

We chopped up different vegetables, many grown at the farm, and then cooked our own stir fry. We took a walk around the gardens and had the opportunity to smell and taste chives and sorrel. Then we played some games identifying the different parts of a plant and dug in the soil pit.

After lunch it was all about the animals! The children fed two very agreeable guinea pigs and then walked around the farm feeding the different farm animals.

Year 3/4 Racquet Festival

On Thursday, a group of children from Year 3 and 4 travelled to David Lloyd Gym in Long Ashton to participate in a racquet festival. A fun-filled morning of tennis was had with lots of exciting games that everyone enjoyed playing.

Year 5/6 Girls' Football Tournament

Over the past three weeks, the Year 5/6 Girls' football team have taken part in a football tournament organised by the Ashton Park School Sports Partnership. The improvement in teamwork and skill from every player was fantastic to witness. The hard work they have demonstrated at training has definitely paid off. Well done all!

SUDS Planters and Bristol Avon Rivers Trust

Year 4 and the Green Team spent a morning this week planting up our Sustainable Urban Drainage planters.

The whole school had an assembly about the important job these planters have to help stop sewage entering rivers. They will also be great for adding greenery to our playgrounds and providing homes and food for local wildlife.

The children did an amazing job and you can admire their handiwork in Playground 2 and the outdoor classroom.

Year 4 took part in some brilliant workshops with the Bristol Avon River Trust to understand more about our waterways and how to help wildlife.

Spring Clean for Our Hedgehog Houses

The Green Team did a great job this week clearing out the hedgehog houses in the outdoor classroom. They added new hay for the Spring and found plenty of slugs, spiders and woodlice! We also checked on the frogspawn which has now hatched so we look forward to watching the tadpoles grow.

Attendance and Punctuality

Eid Celebrations

Next week at Victoria Park, we will be marking the Islamic celebration of Eid al-Fitr. On Friday 4th April, we are inviting children to wear their celebration clothes to school as part of our Eid celebrations. Eid Mubarak to all our families who celebrate!

Earth Day 2025 - Wear Green/Blue and Donate a Plant

We will be celebrating international Earth Day in school on the first day back after the Easter break (Tuesday 22nd April). The Green Team would love everyone to wear green or blue or something animal-related! They would also love any donations of plants to help green-up our classrooms.

If you or anyone you know works in conservation or sustainability and would be happy to come into school that week and talk to our pupils, please let Mrs Walker or your child's class teacher know.

Food Festival – Save the Date!

Save the date - the Food Festival is now planned for the 17th May from 12-2pm. More details about opportunities to volunteer and get involved with this really fun event will be coming soon.

If you are a parent or carer involved with a food-related business and want to run a workshop or host a stall at the Food Festival event, please get in touch with the PTFA over email at victoriapark.ptfa@gmail.com

PTFA Uniform sales really needs your help!

Selling good quality second hand uniform raises about £1000 a year for the PTFA, provides a cheaper alternative to buying new, and is great for the environment by reducing waste. What's not to like? Everyone's a winner!

However, several of the uniform sales volunteers will be leaving the school soon as their kids move on to secondary. We really need some new volunteers please. If you're interested, and want to find out what's involved please contact us via the PTFA email; victoriapark.ptfa@gmail.com or speak to us at the next uniform sale - on Friday the 4th of April.
