Friday 13th March 2026

In our whole school assembly on Monday, we reviewed what different year groups have done so far this year in relation to the Victoria Park Passport of Opportunities. Two of the aims of the passport are to help us be curious about the world around us and contribute to the ambition within our school vision to

"open doors for every child" through providing a rich and experiential wider curriculum for our children.

We use the 'Victoria Park Passport' to show the experiences we want our children to have during their time at our school. Whilst it is updated and changes from time to time, the basic principle of the Passport remains the same.

In the assembly, we were able to "stamp" the areas of our passport that have happened over the last term and a half in different year groups.  These have included participating in a dance festival (Year 2) and a poetry slam (Year 6) as well as a variety of workshops for different year groups on rail, fire and internet safety that have contributed to the "Lifeskills" section of the Passport.  We also looked forward to events that are coming next this term, notably participating in a debate in the council chambers (Year 4) and "Play in a Week" (Year 3)

Later in the year, we will review the passport again in assembly to "stamp" further opportunities we have experienced this year. In the meantime, you can keep up to date on these events as they happen by checking the newsletter each week.

Our school attendance was up last week compared to the previous week which was great, thank you to everyone for a big effort to ensuring children are in school every day.  We had a slight increase in the number of children who were late last week.  Please remember school starts at 8:45!

Year 4 Clifton Downs Trip

Year 4 enjoyed an exciting trip to Clifton Downs this week, where they took part in a hands-on nature workshop all about woodland mammals. The afternoon was filled with discovery as the children learned how different animals live in the woodland environment, what they eat, and how they adapt to their habitats.

During the workshop, the children explored the fascinating world of woodland creatures such as foxes, badgers, squirrels and hedgehogs. They discovered how these animals build shelters, where they like to live, and how their diets help them survive in the wild.

Thank you,

BMX Flatland Stunt Show

Our whole school was treated to a brilliant show from Matti Hemmings of Fusion Extreme this week. This was a reward paid for by the Schools Active Travel Team at Bristol City Council who we have worked closely with us to promote walking, wheeling, cycling and scooting to and from school. The council wanted to recognise and congratulate our school and the children for all our hard work in recently achieving the Modeshift STARS ‘Good’ accreditation award level and to encourage more children to cycle. This is a significant achievement, and we should all be very proud of the positive steps we are all taking as a school community to leave our cars at home for those short journeys and choose to walk, wheel, cycle and scoot where possible in order to reap all of the health and environmental benefits!

Matti is a professional BMX Flatland champion and Guinness World Record holder. He showed us some amazing tricks, including one he invented himself and talked to us about determination and the power of practising.

Year 5 and 6 took part in some fantastic workshops and had a go at some tricks of their own!

If your child would like to find out more about BMX riding and practise their skills, we have loads of amazing opportunities in Bristol:

Year 5/6 Football

The finals of the Ashton Park School Sports Partnership were held on Monday. The year 5/6 team competed in the finals of the developing league. Initially, we played in a group stage winning 3 games and drawing one, which saw us finish top of the group and advance to the semi finals. We then managed to win the semi final and reach the final where we faced Cathedral. After a close fought match VPPS came out 1-0 winners! The team played fantastically and Mr Dyer is incredibly proud of all of their hard work.

World Book Day Reading Event

On Monday morning, a group of children from across the school football teams were invited to attend a Robins Memories session at Ashton Gate. This is a session organised by the Robins Foundation to support older supporters who may be at risk of isolation. Our children were partnered up and enjoyed reading a selection of books and memorabilia from Bristol City as well as talking to their adults. They were then lucky to be taken on a tour of the stadium before heading back to school.

Comic Relief

Next Friday (20th March) we will be raising money for Comic Relief.  The school council have organised a "Clothes Gone Wrong" event where children and staff are invited to wear non-school uniform for a donation to Comic Relief.  Clothes gone wrong might include clothes worn backwards, inside out, in the wrong order, too big, too small.  Alternatively, children can wear bright coloured outfits and go for a more "crazy clothing" vibe.  A suggested donation of £1 can be made in cash on the day or via the Parent Gateway app.

There will also be a joke telling competition in the playground at lunchtime which has always been a popular event.  Children will be invited to come and tell their best joke if they wish.

The Caterpillar Chronicles.....Coming Soon!

We are hoping to have the first edition of our school magazine ready for purchase/ordering next week after school on Friday.  It will be 50p (to cover the cost of photocopying) and will be cash only.  The school council have worked really hard to get this project started.  Thank you to all the children who have submitted entries for the magazine.
