Welcome back everyone!
We hope all of you had enjoyable summer breaks and are excited about the new term.
It has been great to see everybody back at school. As always, there will be lots of ambitious learning and enrichment events for the children to look forward to.
In the meantime though, the children and staff have all been really enthusiastic about being back at school with each other and it has already felt like a strong start to the term.

Term 1 Curriculum Newsletters
Each term we provide a Curriculum Newsletter per year group. These are written by class teachers and give an overview of the learning that will be taking place each term in your child's class. The term 1 newsletters for each year group can be found here.
Art on the Hill
It is less than a month till BS3’s premier art event. On Saturday 3rd of October we are once again opening our doors to show off the fantastic art of our pupil community.
Over the next few weeks children from reception to Year 6 will be hard at work combining creativity, determination and team work to produce something fantastic for the crowds. With the support of Lucy and Beth from ArtLab the sky is the limit and I hope you are looking forward to seeing the final pieces as much as we are.
Next week, the workshops will be:
- Tuesday 15th: Year 4 and Year 2
The following week, the workshops will be:
- Monday 21st: Year 1 and Year 5
- Tuesday 22nd: Year 3 and Reception
- Thursday 24th: Year 5 and Year 3
- Friday 25th: Year 6 and Year 2
In the last week, the workshops will be:
- Monday 28th: Year 4 and Reception
- Tuesday 29th: Year 6 and Year 1
The children are likely to be using a lot of paint (and other interesting mediums) on some large surfaces during the workshops. On the day your child is doing their workshop, to prevent uniforms being covered in paint, they can bring in some old clothes (that you don't mind getting messy) to change into during the workshop.

Useful Information About Shine
Welcome back! As we start the new school term, we’re looking forward to enjoying a packed year ahead. Here is some useful information about Shine.
Class Names: It is important that your child’s class is correct, so we know where to collect them from. If you haven't already, please can you update your childs' class name. Log into your Shine account, go to 'Attendee Details' click the little pencil in the top right to update their class from the drop down menu. If you cannot find the correct class name, please let us know and we will add it.
Updating attendee details: Please remember to add any medical details, individual needs and dietary requirements for your child in the ‘My attendee’ section of their profile.
All clubs are bookable online: Shine | Victoria Park Primary School
After School Club Cancellation: You can cancel any booking with 6 days notice for a credit or refund. This can be done via your Shine account.
Snacks: If your child would like a snack, please do send them with one (no nuts, please). Snacks are provided by Shine if your child is staying for Snack & Chill.
Childcare Vouchers: Shine accept Childcare Vouchers and the Government Tax Free Voucher Scheme. You can choose your method of payment via your Shine account.

Windmill Hill City Farm 50th Anniversary
Windmill Hill City Farm is having its 50th anniversary this weekend. It’s amazing that an organization has made so much out of such little funding, and every community visit really helps.
This weekend will be a lovely opportunity to go and see the site if you haven’t been there since your kids were pre-school and see what is on.
You pay for tickets, but it’s very reasonable and there are kids crafts and music and a bar and many other things.

It’s easy to take the farm for granted as it is free to visit, but community donations make a big difference to the upgrades and even running costs, so we can’t assume it will still be here in 10, or even 4 or 5 years if we don’t visit and invest.

People's Emergency Briefing Screening (Climate and Nature Crisis)
South Bristol Climate Hub are hosting a free screening of the National Emergency Briefing on the climate and nature crisis on Wednesday 23rd September, 6pm-8.30pm and you can book your spot here right away.
Pollinator Pathways Project
The Pollinator Pathways Project 'cleans and greens' neglected alleyways around the city, creating miniature 'bee buffets' and bringing communities together. They've worked on 8 alleyways so far in BS3, BS4 and BS5, but want to encourage other communities to take on the project as their own. This year they released a 'Toolkit' - a free 26-page resource sharing how to create these spaces. Neighbours are encouraged to get together and see how they can transform their own local alleyways - it's fun, helps nature and brings people together!
Apple Day
Patchwork Community Gardening Group is holding its annual Apple Day on Saturday 12th September from 11am-2.30pm on its Dean Lane orchard (next to The Dame pub). There will be apple pressing, music and cake - poster attached. If you've got apples you can donate for juicing, do get in touch or bring them along on the day and get involved in the process - it's fun! bemmiepatchwork@gmail.com
Call out for Wildlife Images
My Wild Bedminster had teamed up with Anna, a local creative producer, to make a film about the Greater Bedminster Urban Nature Reserve. She has been interviewing some of the amazing community gardening groups and projects throughout the area. It would be great to include some of your images of wildlife - flora or fauna- captured in BS3. If you are happy to contribute, please upload your videos and images to this folder or send as an email attachment. To be able to credit your work, please add your full name to the file (e.g. kingfisher Ashton Bridge by Ethan Davis).
The finished films will be screened at a community event in the Autumn followed by a discussion about how we can make more space for nature and create nature corridors in our city, involving a diverse range of people and how we can adapt to a changing climate within our local communities. Once we have finished making the BS3 films we will do the same for the Bristol Harbour Community Nature Reserve which covers Hotwells, Cliftonwood, Spike Island and Harbourside.
