Friday 14th March 2025

In our whole school assembly this week, we used our value of curiosity to find out about the life of Anna, a teenage footballer from Norway. We saw how Anna prepared and participated in the Kid's Cup, a big international youth football tournament. We also explored how Anna managed her emotions, including her disappointments, as the tournament progressed.

To find out about Anna, we used a short documentary film from a platform called Lyfta. This platform creates films for children to be able access the stories and lives of different people from all around the world. We will be using more of these "Storyworlds" in some of our assemblies this year to stimulate our curiosity about the lives and cultures of people in the wider world around us.

This week's Values Certificate winners were Joseph, Casper, Zoe, Walter, Nate, Elliot, Jack, Laurie and Albie. Well done all of you!

KS2 Choir at the Bristol Beacon

On Tuesday evening, the KS2 choir and musicians performed in the CST concert alongside pupils of all ages from across the trust at Bristol Beacon. After a long day of rehearsals, the children lit up the concert hall with magical songs and musical performances. Well done to all of them for the dedication and enthusiasm they showed to wow the audience.

Girls' Football Festival

Last Friday, to celebrate International Women's Day, a team of girls from Years 3 and 4 participated in a football festival held jointly by the Ashton Park School Sports Partnership and the Robins Foundation. The girls enjoyed shooting in the inflatable targets and playing numerous matches against other schools. They demonstrated brilliant teamwork to organise and encourage themselves in every game.

Swimming Gala

Another busy week of sport at VPPS started with a swimming gala for children in Year 5 and 6 at Hengrove Leisure Centre on Monday morning. The team had to compete in a range of different events including individual and relay races. Amongst some incredibly tough competition, we managed to achieve an impressive third place overall! They should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

Comic Relief

Next Friday we will be fundraising for Comic Relief in school.  The school council have organised the day and are asking all children and staff to wear their pyjamas or a onesie to school for the day in exchange for a donation to Comic Relief.  Please make sure that children still wear suitable shoes as slippers are not appropriate footwear for the playground.  Donations can be made on the Gateway app or cash can be given in on the day.

The children have also organised a joke telling competition for lunchtime on Friday.  Children will be given the opportunity to share their best jokes so dig out those joke bokes and get learning a good joke.

Attendance and Punctuality

Well done to Bay class for 100% attendance last week, that's a great effort, keep it up.

Last week we had no classes in the school without any lates.  Please do make an extra effort to make sure your child is on time to school every day so they have a settled start to the day and don't miss out on valuable learning time.
