In our whole school assembly on Monday, we marked the start of Ramadan and also had a visitor, Bryony, from Bristol School Streets. She reminded us of how the traffic calming measures around the school operate at the start and end of the school day. She pointed out that some vehicles (such as those belonging to emergency services, blue badge holders, local residents and ones making deliveries) are still allowed to drive on the roads at these times. This means we all need to still be careful crossing or cycling on the roads around the school during this time and not assume the road will be completely clear.
Our school value this week has been Respect. Our Values Certificate winners this week are Tommaso, Annelise, Nikodem, Iris, Ava, Basel, Tilly, Ubaid, Lillyann and Emmeline. Well done all of you!
World Book Day 2025
This week, we have enjoyed celebrating our love of reading for World Book Day! The children's costumes were fantastic, with so much creativity on display. It was wonderful to see the school filled with exciting book characters and to hear the children sharing their favourite stories with friends and teachers.
As part of the celebrations, we came together for a whole-school assembly to talk about our favourite books, characters, and stories. We also explored different types of books we might enjoy reading next, inspiring lots of great ideas and recommendations. After our assembly, we paired up with another class in a different year group so that the children could share their books and read with someone new.
The sponsored reading challenge will be running for the next two weeks, up until Thursday 20th March. We are hoping to raise money to go towards new books for our school whilst encouraging a lifelong love of reading. The children should have received a sponsorship form alongside the reading challenge grid yesterday. Sponsorship forms (as well as money raised) will be collected on Friday 28th March. If you are collecting cash, it will need to be in a named envelope.
A huge thank you to everyone for making World Book Day such a fun and memorable event!
Year 2 SS Great Britain Trip
Year 2 went to visit the SS Great Britain as part of their history learning. The children had an amazing day on Brunel's ship and took home some lasting memories.
Year 3/4 Football Tournament
Over the past three weeks, children from the Year 3/4 football team have played in a tournament organised by the Ashton School Sports Partnership. The improvement that has been shown has been fantastic to see. This culminated in both teams ending unbeaten in the final week of the tournament. They should be incredibly proud of how they have represented the school.
Year 2 Drama Day
Last week Mulberry class enjoyed a day filled with oracy and drama activities, led by ex-VPPS teacher Mr Kelly. We explored feelings related to performing, such as shyness and confidence, as well as how to position ourselves for an audience and project our voices. We then, in groups, rehearsed and performed a scene linked to our recent trip to Watercress Farm. We had so much fun!
Year 2 rail safety workshop
Last week Year 2 took part in an exciting workshop with Platform Rail learning all about being safe by railways, the benefits of train travel and what jobs people do on the railways. We got to dress up as train drivers and engineers and learnt about all the things we might see and hear at a train station.
Costume Swap Shop
A massive thank you for all the donations and swapping at our World Book Day costume swap last week! It was brilliant to have such a lot of engagement from our school community and for so many costumes to find new homes. It is another brilliant way for our children to understand what little things they can do to reduce their impact on the planet and be more sustainable. A big thank you to our parent and staff volunteers for making it happen.
Fake Flowers wanted
If anyone has any fake flowers they would like to donate we would love to have them in Reception. Please drop them off at Cherry or Willow class or the office. Many thanks the EYFS team.
