In whole school assembly this week, we looked at Pride Month which is celebrated every year in June. We learnt what Pride Month is and why it is celebrated, as well how it will be celebrated in Bristol at the end of the month. We also thought about how Pride Month highlights everyone's right to be the person they want to be and how this links to our country's laws as well as our own school values and our diverse school community.

In our Celebration Assembly today these children received certificates for being role models of our school values this week: Emile, Rowan, Oisin, Rory, Jack, Robin, Kushan, Omar, Kayleb, Luke, Fred and Phoebe. Well done all of you!

Our school attendance took a dip last week during the first week of term 6 due to the number of children who were on holiday.  We are really hoping we can maintain the good levels of attendance we have seen all year right to the end of term.

Sports Week Including VPPS Sports Day

We will be celebrating National Sports Week from Monday 22nd - Friday 26th June. During this week, the children will be taking part in various sports during the day as well as their normal P.E. lessons. For this week, please send your child to school wearing their P.E. kit. This must follow the school P.E. kit policy (no football shirts etc.) and a link can be found below as a reminder.

Year 6 Green Futures Workshop

Earlier this week, Year 6 took part in an inspiring Green Futures workshop, led by the Inspire Sustainability team at the University of the West of England, where they explored a range of careers that help reduce emissions and protect the environment. They were surprised to discover the variety of green jobs available, including artists, medical sustainability leads, water recycling operators and net zero consultants. The children were fascinated by these different roles and were encouraged to think about how their own interests and skills could contribute to a more sustainable future.  

Year 6 Route Planning Workshop

As part of their preparations for the transition to secondary school, Year 6 took part in a route planning workshop, using Google Maps to explore journeys from their homes to their new schools. They considered different travel options, including walking, cycling and bus routes, as well as how to plan a return journey. The children discussed the benefits of active travel and learnt practical ways to prepare for travelling safely and confidently.  

Year 6 ArtLab Remembered Heroes project

Year 6 have been working with ArtLab to prepare their pieces for the upcoming Remembered Heroes exhibition. Supported by the Royal British Legion, the children have explored the lives of people from African, Caribbean, South Asian and other communities whose service and sacrifice during the World Wars has often gone unrecognised. Through their research, they have created large-scale mixed media shrines inspired by the work of local artist Chitra Merchant and war artist John Piper. Although the pieces are not yet finished, it has been wonderful to work with Lucy and Beth from ArtLab and see the children's thoughtful and creative ideas beginning to come together.

The finished pieces, alongside the artwork being created by Years 4 and 5, will be exhibited at Circomedia. The exhibition will be open to the public on 10th and 11th July, and we would love for families and members of the community to come along and see the incredible work the children have been creating.  

Cricket

Over the last three weeks, eight children have represented VPPS at a cricket tournament held at Knowle Cricket Club. They have encouraged each other and shown great teamwork throughout the tournament. They performed admirably and reached the final, where unfortunately, they just missed out on a place in the regional finals, after losing a very close game. 

Girls' Football Celebration

On Thursday, the Ashton Park School Sports Partnership arranged a festival to inspire girls to participate in football and more widely sport. The children played in a range of activities and games throughout the day led by girls from local secondary schools. They also received two inspirtational talks from Nat Haigh who is Bristol City Women's academy manager and Lauren O'Sullivan, who is currently a union rep for the Professional Footballers Association. 

Summer Fayre Preparations: Important Dates From the PTFA

This term, the PTFA are currently collecting donations for the Summer Fayre. They will on the playground before and after school on the days below seeking the following donations:

The summer fayre itself will be on: Friday 19th June from 3.30pm

We appreciate all donations you can give and REALLY appreciate any volunteers who can sign up to help at the at the Summer Fayre itself. 

Amplify Parent and Carer Survey

The form asks you about your experience of your child's education. The responses are treated anonymously and confidentially to identify what we are doing well and what we can do better. If you have more than one child at school, you only need to complete the survey once. This survey is administered by our wider trust and is the same across all of our schools. It is used to inform decision making in our school and so the more responses we receive the more useful the survey is to us.
