STEM Week
It has been STEM Week this week at Vicky Park. It has been a fantastic opportunity for pupils across the school to explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The week began with a series of inspiring assemblies, including a STEM Superheroes talk and demonstration from STEMAZING, which introduced children to a range of STEM careers and role models. Pupils also learned about the history of astronomy, investigated air quality in Key Stage 1, discovered the principles of aircraft engineering in Lower Key Stage 2, and explored the fascinating fields of psychology and neuroscience in Upper Key Stage 2. These engaging sessions helped children to see how STEM shapes the world around us and sparked curiosity about future careers and discoveries.
Throughout the week, every year group took part in hands-on workshops linked to real-world STEM challenges. EYFS worked with the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust, while Year 1 explored recycling and investigated acids and alkalis. Year 2 learned about protecting our oceans, Year 3 developed their engineering skills through rail safety, tower-building and bridge-building activities, and Year 4 explored different forms of energy. Year 5 pupils enjoyed a workshop on space and telescopes, while Year 6 worked with EDF to learn about electricity and nuclear power. Alongside these experiences, classes carried out their own scientific investigations, tackling questions such as “What makes the best hankie when you have a cold?” and “What is the best design for a paper aeroplane?” We also launched our sunflower-growing competition, with classes investigating the optimal conditions for growth as they compete to grow the tallest sunflower. It has been wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, creativity and scientific thinking across the school.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the parents, carers and partner organisations who generously gave their time, knowledge and expertise to support STEM Week and inspire our pupils.
Attendance and Punctuality
At the end of Term 5 our whole school attendance stood at 95.78% which is just above National Average. We are really proud of this and want to thank everyone for their continued effort to make sure children are in school every day.
Today in assembly we celebrated the classes with the best attendance and punctuality in Term 5. The winning class for each category receive a small sum of money for the children to decide with their teacher on a reward.
The classes with the best attendance in term 5 were:
| 1st | Willow | 99.24% |
| 2nd | Lime | 97.43% |
| 3rd | Birch | 97.34% |
The classes with the least number of late marks in term 5 were:
| 1st | Birch | 4 |
| 2nd | Mulberry and Willow | 11 |
| 3rd | Bay | 16 |
Finally, holiday season is upon us. We would like to kindly remind you that term time holidays will not be authorised however if you still decide to take your children away it is important you complete an absence form before you go so that we know where the children are. These can be found on the attendance page of our website or collected from the school office.

Values Certificates
The following children were awarded Values Certificates in assembly today: Ezra, Aoife, Kimy, Ben, Alexis, Olivia, Nora, Penny, Omar, Barnaby, Nina and Nairi. Well done all of you!
Year 5 Wildlife Project Trip
Year 5 had the opportunity to take part in two workshops on Tuesday on the Downs in partnership with the Avon Gorge & Downs Wildlife Project. One focused on mini-beasts and life cycles, the other highlighting the amazing Peregrine Falcon. The weather held for us and we all had an amazing time in the great outdoors!
Amplify Parent and Carer Survey
Please find below a link to this year's parents and carers' survey. You will be able to add your responses to the survey until Monday 29th June at 9.00am.
The form asks you about your experience of your child's education. The responses are treated anonymously and confidentially to identify what we are doing well and what we can do better. If you have more than one child at school, you only need to complete the survey once. This survey is administered by our wider trust and is the same across all of our schools. It is used to inform decision making in our school and so the more responses we receive the more useful the survey is to us.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer these questions.

Remembered Heroes: Exhibition
Our Year 4, 5 and 6 children are currently working with Art Lab on an exciting project involving five Bristol schools with the support of the Royal British Legion.
The workshops kicked off at the end of last term and their creations will be finished in the coming weeks.
Year 6 have been looking at and researching people who came from diverse communities to serve alongside British soldiers during the World Wars and have created large scale mixed media shrines inspired by local artist Chitra Merchant and war artist John Piper to celebrate and remember the stories of these people.
Years 4 and 5 will be creating sculptural pieces on the work ‘Field for the British Isles’ by Anthony Gormley that be presented along with hundreds more that will represent the number of people who came from these diverse communities and gave their lives during the World Wars.
All the work produced will be exhibited at Circomedia and the exhibition will be open to the public on the 10th and 11th July where you can come and see what the children have been creating.
Year 5 Request for Donations Of Wildlife or Gardening Equipment
Y5 are in the process of improving the school's outdoor classroom as part of the Zero Carbon School Project. We will be hosting a celebratory showcase on Monday 21st July where the community will be able to come and see the work the kids have done. In the meantime any donations of gardening equipment, plants, seed and wildlife friendly items would be most welcome! Thank you in advance!
