Friday 24th April 2026

Welcome back! It has been a sunny and positive start to the term at Vicky Park.

In assembly this week, our brilliant Green Team took over and shared all of the work our school is doing to carry out our Climate Action Plan. They talked about the things we are working on in school to reduce our impact on the planet and that even small actions can make a big difference. They spoke with real passion and showed what brilliant "change makers" they are within the school.

The Green Team's presentation and our Climate Action Plan are below if you want to delve a deeper into what we are doing.

Values Certificates

Congratulations to our Values Certificate winners this week who were Seb, Beti, Calli, Wren, Phoebe, Maryam, Isobel, Toby, Luna, Salmaan, Josh and Archie.

Attendance and Punctuality

This week we celebrated attendance achievements for term 4.  The class with the best attendance and the class with the fewest late marks over the term both received a cheque for £30 which as a class they can decide how to spend.  They might choose something for their classroom, a game or even a class treat.   Well done to Lime class and Willow class.

Earth Day Celebration

Thank you for all the blue, green, animal and 'Earthy' outfits; it was wonderful to see children celebrating our planet this week! Classes learned about positive actions we can take to make our world a better place and how this links to all of our school values. They discussed plastic pollution, rewilding, keeping oceans clean and what people are doing in our city to make a difference. Year 3 worked on rehearsing poems on an environmental theme and Year 5 took part in a film making workshop. Some of our Year 6 children were brilliant VPPS ambassadors with visitors from the Better Uniform Campaign who listened to their views on school uniforms and how to make them more sustainable, affordable and fairer for families. Reception pupils were greeted on Earth Day morning with some newly hatched chicks!

Earth Day Photo Competition Deadline Extended

We've had some beautiful entries already for our photo competition and are extending the deadline to Monday 27th April. Why not get out in the sunshine this weekend and take some snaps of nature in your neighbourhood?!

All the details are below.

Wheely Good News!

Our school has the 2nd highest percentage of active travel to school (walking, wheeling, cycling and scooting) - a whopping 88%! Thank you to all our families for helping us be active and safe travellers and for reducing car journeys to school.

Green Team Litter Pick

Our amazing Green Team went litter picking this week and did a great job making our neighbourhood a better place for people and wildlife. They found lots of random things including a bicycle chain and even a sock!

Year 2 Victorian Day

On Thursday, Year 2 experienced what it was like to be Victorian school children. They wrote with chalk, practiced their correct postures and even had the chance to try on the dunce hat. Year 2, your costumes were amazing. Well done!

Year 4/5/6 Football Team

Last term, the Year 4/5/6 football team took part in a tournament at the Imperial Sports Ground. The competition ran over three weeks, with both teams playing against a range of different schools. The girls demonstrated fantastic determination and teamwork, which continued to grow with each passing week. It was wonderful to see the progress they made throughout the tournament and they should all feel incredibly proud of how they represented VPPS.

Road Safety: 20mph Consultation - Have Your Say!

Bristol City Council is proposing safer 20mph speed limits for around 100 of Bristol’s most dangerous roads to make walking, cycling, and driving to and from school and around the city safer. Although these roads make up only 8% of Bristol’s network, they account for around 30% of serious crashes.

More than half of Bristol residents say their local roads aren’t safe for children to walk, and three-quarters say they’re not safe for children to cycle. 20mph speed limits are a proven way to help make our roads safer for everyone.

The Council wants to hear from local people before any final decisions are made, and feedback from parents and carers is particularly important because of concerns about children’s safety – have your say by responding to the consultation http://www.bristol.gov.uk/20mphSurvey

Thank you, and please contact consultation@bristol.gov.uk if you have any queries.
