Thank you to every one who came to our Sports Day and "Big Sing" this week. Parents and carers turned out in big numbers (as always with so many of our school events). Huge amounts of organisation go into all of our extra curricular activities, often over quite long time periods, so we really appreciate you all showing your support to your children and the school- especially when it means having to rearrange your other "life commitments" to do so. We hope you enjoyed the events this week and that they gave you a sense of belonging as part of our wider school community.
Attendance and Punctuality
Another great week for attendance last week with our whole school attendance above the National Average. Unfortunately we had a huge rise in the number of children arriving to school late last week, an increase of over 30 compared to the previous week.
The classes with the best attendance last week were:

Well done Elder class, everybody in every day last week, a fantastic achievement!

Sports Day
On Monday, we were delighted to hold our Sports Day at Victoria Park. It was wonderful to see so many family members come along to support the children, making it a true whole-school community event.
Despite the hot weather, the children showed great enthusiasm and determination as they took part in a wide range of running, throwing and jumping events. The winning houses for the morning, the afternoon and the overall competition will be announced during Monday's assembly.
A special thank you goes to our Year 6 pupils, who did an outstanding job of managing and scoring each event throughout.
Year 3 Camp in a Day
The Year 3 children enjoyed an exciting visit to Watercress Farm to give them a taste of what it's like on school camp. They enjoyed eating popcorn cooked on a fire, going on a nature walk and jumping in the river where they got completely soaked!
Reception Class Trip to Weston Super Mare
Reception classes had a great time at Weston yesterday - digging, building and generally enjoying the beach!
Year 5/6 Football Match
The Year 5/6 football team played their final matches of the season this week, taking on Fair Furlong in a double header. They finished in style, winning the first match 5–1 before securing a 2–0 victory in the second. It was a fantastic and thoroughly deserved way to end the season, reflecting all of their hard work, commitment and teamwork throughout the year. Well done to everyone involved!
The Big Summer Sing
On Tuesday, we had our big summer sing. This year we performed a wide range of songs at Victoria Park which made for a lovely experience for all involved. The children did themselves proud as all of their practice paid off. They sang with fantastic confidence and sounded great!
Reception Food Bank Donations
The Food Bank were delighted to receive the donations and really excited to hear about the story you'd been reading.
Y5 Moth Workshop
On Thursday Y5 enjoyed a moth workshop from Heather at Butterfly Conservation. The children saw amazing moths up close and explored moth habitats in our outdoor classroom.
Garden Showcase 20th July 1:30-3:30. Everyone Welcome
As you may know, Y5 have had the privilege of taking part in the Zero Carbon Schools Project this year. As part of this, we have been enhancing the outdoor classroom (outside the art room/where breakfast club drop off is) with the aim of improving it for wildlife. The kids have worked really hard on this, which is why we are going to be hosting a Garden Showcase event on Monday 20th July 1:30-3:30. This will be a chance for the whole school community to celebrate the children's hard work and will include presentations, special guests and an opportunity to see all the new planting.
Additionally, we have set up a collaborative project on iNaturalist to log observations in the local area. We encourage Y5 students to upload your findings as per the instructions in the email that was sent out earlier in the week. For those in other year groups, please send your photos and locations to us via the office or physically print it out and hand it to a member of the Y5 team. We will then upload them on your behalf.

The Big Future Survey from the Children's Commissioner
Dame Rachel de Souza, The Children's Commissioner for England is seeking responses to her Big Future Survey. She wants contributions from children about the changes they want to see in their communities, their biggest concerns, and their hopes for the future. Over the next few days, our children in Years 3-6 will have the opportunity to contribute to the survey in school. For younger children, it is also possible for parents and carers to answer with or on behalf of their children. Guitar and Piano Recital with Bill and Fiona
On Wednesday, it was the guitar and piano recital with our teachers Bill and Fiona. The children who played instruments were really confident and expressed themselves wonderfully. They have all come such a long way. The evening also marked Bill's retirement after a long and inspiring musical career. He has worked with Victoria Park Primary School for many years and we all wish him the very best for the future.
Piano Lessons
Piano lessons available through our independent piano teacher, Fiona Prescott. Fiona has been here since 2019 and offers 20/25/30 minute lessons at family friendly prices. Rocksteady Performances
And finally, today, we rounded off our year of Rocksteady with our final rock concerts. The progress that all of the children have made playing their various musical instruments and being collaborative in bands is clear to see. They sounded amazing as they rocked the main hall!
Thank you to everyone who came along to watch the children perform music this week or at some point across the year. Your continued involvement helps to make the atmosphere at these events really special.

Free Children's Audio Books
As part of the National Year of Reading, Apple Books is offering a fantastic collection of FREE children's audiobooks for a limited time.
The collection includes over 50 children's audiobooks from much-loved authors including Julia Donaldson, Michael Morpurgo and Dermot O'Leary. There's something for children of all ages to enjoy.
The audiobooks are free to download until 21st July. Once you've added them to your Apple Books library during the offer period, they're yours to keep and enjoy whenever you like.
