Friday 15th November 2024

Our value of the week has been Respect. Teachers in the school have been spotting children showing this value in school this week. Our Values Certificate winners this week were Abbey, Rowan, Phoebe, Lea, Poppy, Zeynep, Tanveer, Fred, Morgan and Cece.

Anti-bullying Week

This week we have been learning about Anti-Bullying week in school.  The theme this year is Choose Respect and we spoke about how to be respectful to one another in assembly on Monday.  We looked at what bullying is and what we do if it is reported.  You can see more about this on our website:

https://www.victoriaparkprimary.co.uk/anti-bullying/

On Tuesday, we celebrated our differences by joining in with Odd Sock Day.  It was great to see so many children taking part and so many bright socks!

Children in Need

Everyone looked fantastic in spots today...there were also a few gladiators on show! Thank you for all your donations for BBC Children in Need.

Watercress Farm Trip

Mulberry class had a trip to Watercress Farm as part of our nature connections visits. We really enjoyed our wild walking safari, lots of time to freely explore and meeting the resident pigs. Eating pancakes cooked on the campfire was a highlight too!

Parents' Evenings

This term, parents' evenings for children in KS1 and KS2 will take place on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th November. This is an opportunity to come into school to see your child(ren)'s books and talk to their teacher about their learning. You should have already received a letter detailing how to book your ten-minute appointment with your child's teacher. Please speak to the school office if you have not received your letter.  For children in Reception classes (Willow and Cherry) your parents' evenings took place last term and you will not be expected to come again in November.

Opportunity to meet with our SENDCo during Parents' Evening

During the upcoming Parents' Evening, should you wish to meet with the SENDCo to discuss any specific concerns or support needs for your child, please contact the school office at your earliest convenience. Our team will be happy to arrange an appointment for you.

School Nurse Drop In

On 3rd December, the school nurses will be hosting a drop in session for parents to come and discuss any concerns they have about their children.  School nurses can offer advice and support about a range of worries including bed-wetting, toilet training, sleep, anxiety and behaviour.  They will be based in the Community Room (where Moose takes place) on playground 2 at drop off time.

Chapter Books Wanted

If you have any chapter books for younger readers that you don't need any more, Year 2 would love them - please send to Mulberry or Magnolia Class or leave in the office.

PTFA Collections

The PTFA are collecting donations for some of the Winter Fair stalls starting next week. Please know that there is no obligation to donate to all (or any) of these. We appreciate anything that you are able to give.

  • Friday 22nd November: Non-school uniform day and donate Jolly Jars or £1. A jolly jar is any jar filled with little treats; sweets, small toys, leftover party bag contents! No loose or unwrapped sweets in the jars please. This is one of the most popular stalls at the fairs. Please note that the non-uniform is not reliant on donations. If your child is in years 5 or 6 they can find us in playground 1 or we can collect from their classrooms on the morning.
  • Friday 29th November: Donate teddies for the teddy tombola. Pre-loved is fine but please only donate clean, washed teddies.
  • Friday 29th November:   Donate presents for the wrapping room. Unused and in original packaging if it affects the quality of the item. This is an area where kids go in alone to choose a gift for their parents/carers and then get it wrapped up with the help of the staff volunteers.
  • Friday 6th December: Donate cakes for the big day plus any of the above if you've missed those days. Please ensure cakes are labelled with its name and any allergens. It really helps us to have the cake donations the day before so that we don't have to coordinate last minute ones on the day!

There will be volunteers in the playgrounds on these dates collecting these items but you can donate any of these things to the office on a date that suits you (up to the 6th December).

Attendance and Punctuality

We have seen an increase in the number of children arriving late to school recently.  Please remember that school begins at 8:45 and it is important that the children are on time.  Being late for school not only means the children miss out on valuable learning; it can also be very difficult for some children who then find the transition into class harder when the learning has already started.  Our staff are always on hand to greet the children so they have the best possible start to the day but please help us with this by ensuring they are on time.
