Welcome to our school website - please come in and take a look around. You can click on "Newsletters" to see our weekly school newsletter and termly curriculum newsletters.
Our school value this week has been curiosity. In our whole school assembly we considered how important it is to be curious about the world we live in and the different lives, cultures and experiences people have across the globe. This is something we will be doing more of in our whole school assemblies this term, in line with our school vision of celebrating our differences and thinking about our place in the world.
Our Values Certificates were also awarded to children "caught" showing curiosity this week. Congratulations to this week's winners, Evy, Theodore, Josh, Danny, Josh, Fern, Zaynep, Amelia, Lacey, Zofia and Frank.
Lantern Parade
Year 4 had a wonderful time at the Bedminster Lantern Parade last Saturday. There was a great turn out and a real sense of community spirit. The Lantern Parade is an important part of our VPPS Passport of Opportunities so thank you to all the families who paraded or came to support us. Your contribution made it an even more amazing event. Our large lantern of a Large Blue butterfly, the subject of local conservation projects, was particularly celebrated. Look forward to seeing it proudly displayed in school soon!
Explorer Dome Visit
This week, Year 5 were fortunate enough to have the amazing Explorer Dome visit. They presented their space show, which takes the children through the solar system, showing them each planet up close, as well as providing an insight into the night sky and constellations too! It was so interesting and informative, and all the children were so engaged!
Attendance and Punctuality
Last week was a good week for attendance across the school: whole school attendance is up on the previous week, another class got 100% this week and we also recognised a huge improvement in one class who raised their attendance by 6%.
We will start to focus on punctuality more this term as we have noticed this slipping. Please remember that school starts at 8:45, if you are coming through the gate at 8:50am you are already 5 minutes late. Children miss valuable learning time at the beginning of the day e.g. phonics, maths input, following up on the previous days learning. It can also be unsettling for children who arrive to school late so please make an extra effort to leave the house 5 minutes earlier next week.
School Crossing Patrols
As you may be aware, Bristol City Council is in the wider process of budget setting for next year and one of the savings options within this is to remove the funding for School Crossing Patrols.
The process for considering this is ongoing, the latest part of which was the Council's Finance Sub Committee meeting last week to review the savings options. The final vote on the Council's proposed budget will be in February. That means the options that have been published might change.
Currently, the Council provide us with one School Crossing Patrol, Jo, who helps children cross Wedmore Vale safely before and after school.
The Council have written to us to say they are keen to improve road safety around our school, whether the savings option is taken forward or not, and will update us on what they might propose following the outcome of the budget meeting in February.
The proposal and uncertainty is likely to be of concern to a number of you. We have been asked by a parent to share this petition with our school community for people to consider signing should you wish to register concern with the proposal.
