In our assemblies this week we explored our school value of respect. At at the beginning of the week in whole school assembly we did this by learning about the Pope's funeral last weekend. We considered how attendees from around the world, a number of whom were from different faiths and backgrounds, went to the event with the aim of showing respect. We also thought about how they demonstrated this through the words, actions and rituals that were used during the event. Finally, the children considered what similar things we do in our school community to promote acting with respect.
As usual, Values Certificates have been awarded to children who have been spotted acting as role models for this school value during this week. Well done to the children who have been awards certificates this week, who were Taaliyah, Jesse, Nikodem, River, Sienna, Ayman, Ellan and Kashi.
Year 3 Nature Trip to Watercress Farm
It was Year 3's turn to visit Watercress Farm today. On a beautiful sunny day at the farm they enjoyed a series of outdoor learning activities including lighting fires and foraging. The children participated really well throughout the day as they explored and connected with nature.
Group Visit to Watercress Farm
It was not just Year 3 who enjoyed a visit to Watercress Farm this week. Miss Baron took one of her groups to this week as well. Whilst there, the children went in the river and enjoyed the sunshine as well as eating flatbread (made with wild garlic grown in the woods) which they had cooked over the fire.
Year 5 Quick Sticks Team
On Thursday, the Year 5 Quick Sticks hockey team played in a tournament at Merchants' Academy. They completed against a number of other local schools during the morning. The team represented the school superbly, demonstrating all of our school values whilst competing to high level. Well done team!

Now we have had a flavour of that nice weather it has probably got a lot of you thinking about summer holidays. We know that it is tempting to book a holiday during term time, especially given the rising costs of holidays but we need to remind you that absence from school for the purpose of a holiday is not an authorised absence and may result in a penalty notice fine being issued by the local authority. A polite reminder that you must fill out an absence request (available on the school website or at the office) if you are planning to take your child out of school and this must be done in advance on the absence.
