Friday 7th June 2024

This week, children across Victoria Park Primary School have been excited to receive raffle tickets for coming into school on time each day. The big prize draw will take place on Friday afternoon! In assembly, we discussed the importance of attending school, and took part in a quiz about school attendance. While school attendance across the country is lower than average at the moment, we want ours to be the best ever and are working hard to increase our overall attendance by recognising those classes and individuals whose school attendance is highest or the most improved. If you have any questions about school attendance, please contact Miss Mullen.

Attendance Awards

These classes have won a cash prize for them to choose their own reward.  We will let you know over the next few weeks how they have celebrated.

  • Best class attendance Term 5 = Oak class with 96.8%
  • Most improved class attendance = Elder class
  • Most punctual class Term 5 = Hazel class

Staffing Update

Mr Kellow has decided to embark on a career change and will be training as an electrician. Congratulations go to Mrs Crawshaw who has a new job at Bridge Farm Primary School in September. Both Mr Kellow and Mrs Crawshaw will stay with us until the summer holidays. We wish them both the very best of luck!

Would you like to come and work at Victoria Park Primary School as a teaching assistant or Higher Level Teaching Assistant (cover supervisor)? We currently have these vacancies available and would love to hear from you. Please feel free to pass these links on to anyone you know who may be interested.

A Message from the PTFA

We are desperately short of volunteers to help on the stalls at the PTFA Summer Fair on the 15th June. As things stand, the fair will be greatly reduced or may not be able to go ahead at all. If anyone is able to volunteer their time this would be greatly appreciated and would ensure that this fantastic event (which is great fun for all as well as being a really good fundraiser for the PTFA) can go ahead as planned.

To volunteer, go to the Classlist app, go to What's On at the bottom of the page and then select the Summer Fair event where you can view the sign up lists. Or if it's easier just email victoriapark.ptfa@gmail.com

If you would rather help on a stall that hasn't been assigned to your year group then that is absolutely fine - just pop your name down. If you want to help but the shifts that are showing are too long then please let your class rep know on whatsapp or email victoriapark.ptfa@gmail.com with what you are able to do.

Thank you.

  • Reception - parents to stay on playground so we can register the children then we all walk up together at 9:00am. Finish at 10:10am.
  • Year 1 - 10:10am to 11:10am
  • Year 2 - 10:10am to 11:30am

  • Year 4, 5, 6 - 1:20pm to 3:05pm

Big Summer Sing

Children in all year groups have started practising for the Big Summer Sing which will be at 2pm on Tuesday 16th July. Please come and join us in the middle playground if you can.

Hot Weather

We are beginning to experience some warmer weather, so please remember:

  • Children should bring a water bottle to school, which they can refill in their classrooms. On hot days, they are also encouraged to take them outside at break and lunch times. It's essential that these are labelled with your child's name and class; we already have some unnamed bottled in lost property from this week alone!
  • Please check that your child's jumper/cardigan is clearly labelled with their name and class. On warmer days, children will take jumpers off and may misplace them. A name label means we can get lost jumpers back to the right person.
  • Sun hats may be worn outside (again, labelled with names!) and you may choose to apply suncream to your child in the morning. It is OK for children to bring a named bottle of sun lotion or sun cream into school, providing you are happy for them to apply it themselves. Unfortunately, staff are not allowed to apply sun cream to your child. Children must not share their sun cream with anyone else.
  • Children may wear sandals to school, providing they have a back strap which keeps the footwear firmly on their feet. Crocs and flip-flops are not safe because they easily slip off.
  • Finally, please check the weather forecast in the morning and ensure appropriate clothing is worn to school.

New Library of Things in Bedminster

The Library of Things is a brilliant initiative where you can borrow anything from a tent to a cake stand to a jet washer for a few hours or a few weeks. Great for supporting sustainability and reducing unnecessary purchases: https://www.sharebristol.org.uk/

They need donations and volunteers as well as customers so spread the word and get borrowing!

Festival of Nature 1st - 9th June

Join in the UK's largest free celebration of nature. It has been running across Bristol and Bath for the past week and there's still lots to see and do, including their Bath takeover this Saturday 8th June https://www.bnhc.org.uk/festival-of-nature/

Our Green Team have been hard at work once again with Angus from Butterfly Conservation, planting up our new pollinator-friendly planters in the playgrounds to help establish new thriving eco-friendly habitats around school. Take a look at these photos of our lovely new plants. We hope you have a great weekend!
