Friday 21st June 2024

Welcome to this week's newsletter. We welcomed a visitor to our assembly on Monday - Claire from Bristol Libraries came to tell the children about this year's Summer Reading Challenge.

Marvellous Makers Summer Reading Challenge 2024 | The Reading Agency

Unleash Your Creativity with the Marvellous Makers Summer Reading Challenge! The Summer Reading Challenge returns with an exciting new theme for 2024 - Marvellous Makers! Developed by The Reading Agency in partnership with the charity Create, this year's Challenge celebrates children's creativity and storytelling abilities.

The theme for this year’s #SummerReadingChallenge is Marvellous Makers! Developed in partnership with Create - a leading charity bringing the creative arts to those who need it most - this year’s Challenge aims to fire up children’s imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.

The annual challenge is delivered in partnership with public libraries, and it’s free to take part. From June to September, children taking part in ‘Marvellous Makers’ can discover new stories and explore their creativity – from junk modelling to craft to drawing and painting.

How to take part
Children can join at any Bristol library from Saturday 6th July.
To take part in the challenge, simply pick up a free folder, collect stickers and then read at least 6 library books. At the end, the reward is a brilliant Summer Reading Challenge medal! Children & families can also take part online.
To take part online go to summerreadingchallenge.org.uk where children create their own profile with the assistance of an adult. Children are encouraged to read library books, digital eBooks and listen to eAudio books, with fun digital activities, digital badges & a downloadable certificate when they finish.

When is my local library open?

Have a look at the timetable below to find the opening days and times for all of Bristol's libraries.

Coffee and Chat for Parents of Pupils with SEND

A few parents have organised a coffee morning for parents of pupils with SEND, taking place in the community room on Tuesday the 25th June. Come from 9am (after drop off) until about 10.30am.
"This will be another informal get together, a chance for parents of children with SEND, either with or without an EHCP, to meet each other with no fixed agenda other than to try and positively support each other, and hopefully feel less alone in our parenting of our SEND kids."
There's no need to book, please just turn up if you can make it.
