Friday 19th May 2023

This week our school value was Respect. Pupils talked about respecting that everyone is different and heard the story of "The Sneetches" by Dr Seuss. Although told in a typically light-hearted way, this is a story that teaches children about discrimination and encourages the reader to consider what it means to be fair and to treat people equally. It has also been Mental Health Awareness Week. This poster from National Online Safety reminds us to look out for our mental wellbeing online with some simple and eye-catching messages:

Staffing News

One member of our team has some very exciting news to share! Sean Brice and his family are moving to Dubai and have secured jobs in an international school, after the summer holidays. This means that Mr Brice will be moving on from Victoria Park Primary School. Naturally we will be sad to see him go, and miss everything he brings to the school. However, we are sure you will join us in congratulating him and share the excitement for his next chapter.

Girls on Track

On Wednesday this week, ten girls from across KS2 were lucky enough to visit Monkton Combe Senior School in Bath for a special day of Science and Engineering. The event was run by Motor Sport UK who aim to inspire more girls and women into STEM careers. Our pupils experienced a pit stop challenge, building remote control cars and even saw a real F1 car! Here are a range of photographs from the day:

Drama Workshops

Pupils in Year 5 took part in a special interactive Drama Workshop with students from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School on Thursday. The students had written a play based on the Year 5 reading text "Boy in the Tower". The play explored the varying lives of people living in a block of flats. After watching the play, pupils enacted their own scenes to add to the performance. It was a great opportunity to rehearse and perform in front of their peers, and to be inspired by some young people who have chosen Drama and Theatre as their future career!

On the last day of term (Friday 26th May), the PTFA will hold their regular second-hand uniform sale in the middle playground, along with the ever-popular cake sale. Come along to stock up on low-cost summer dresses and shorts! We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
