Friday 10th May 2024

Every week in assembly, we explore one of our school values. The children know our school values really well, and they influence the way we behave, learn and interact with each other. Our four school values are unique to our school. However this week, we looked at a different set of values - British Values. These are promoted in every school in Britain, so it's important that children know what they are. There are five British Values, which are:

We will be seeing if children can learn and remember these British Values alongside our school values.

Schools Triathlon 2024

This year, children from Victoria Park Primary School once again competed in the Knight Frank schools triathlon at Clifton College. Between them the children have raised over £3000 for the Restless Development charity. Each team completed all three triathlon disciplines; swimming, cycling and running, in a relay format. The event is for all sporting levels, and is first and foremost a fun event combining sport and fundraising. All the children worked hard and showed determination and teamwork, as well as encouraging competitors from other teams. Thank you to all the parents and carers who registered the teams, supported fundraising and transported their young triathletes to the event!

Chickens in the School Pond!

Not really, but we've had our results back from the GenePools citizen science project. We sent off a pond water sample which was analysed using novel DNA sequencing methods. Here's a snapshot of our school pond results, including traces of chicken, dog and fox as well as some cool invertebrates like the Hairy Back, Hydra and Springtail:

To see our school pond results in more detail, you can visit this webpage and search for our pond number GP11244. Find out more about the GenePools project here.

Green Team and Butterfly Conservation

Following our survey looking at how to improve the school grounds for pollinators, our Green Team got planting last week. We have planted up the bed by the Key Stage 1 gate with tall growing meadow plants for pollinators. The recent rain and sun will be perfect to help them grow. We hope you can enjoy them along with the bees and butterflies!
