Earth Day

We had an amazing first day back celebrating all the wonderful things about our planet. The Green Team did an amazing assembly with plenty of  ideas to share about how we can play our part to protect the environment. Across the school we read brilliant books, had talks from Hedgehog Rescue, performed some poems and created some beautiful artwork to remind people about sustainability and how to looking after our Earth. This Year's theme is 'Our Power, Our Planet'. The Green Team are going to run an energy saving campaign across school in terms 5 and 6 so look out for all their super sparky ideas and how you can help at home!

Earth Heroes Event

The Green Team went to Sparks in Broadmead to take part in an Earth Heroes launch event. They met with green teams from our CST sister schools Trinity Academy and Cathedral Primary School. They also met Dr Mya-Rose Craig aka 'Bird Girl', environmental campaigner, author and diversity activist who spoke to the children about small things we can do which add up to make a big difference. They took part in workshops about water pollution, wonderful worms and learnt about where our clothes come from. The Green Team were brilliant ambassadors for our school - as well as the planet! And we all came back inspired to launch our energy saving campaign in school this term with plenty of exciting ideas.

We've had a brilliant time in school celebrating International Earth Day this week. You can help support nature at home this weekend too. 25-28 April is the City Nature Challenge where you can help scientists and conservationists identify as much local wildlife as possible. Over 650 cities across the world are taking part. You just need a smartphone and the iNaturalist app to take out and about on a walk. Find out more here https://www.bnhc.org.uk/city-nature-challenge/

Amazing Local Artwork to Celebrate Earth Day

On Tuesday, we were all greeted back to school by the sight of an amazing new mural opposite our school on Kensal Road. It was painted during the Easter holiday by local artist Farrah Fortnum. There was quite a buzz around the school, the area and local media on Earth Day as a result of the mural. Farrah also came into the school to talk to our Year 2 children about her work. When you next go to admire the mural, see if you can spot the VPPS inspired caterpillar...

CST Primary School Smartphone Survey

Our Trust is working with the University of the West of England (UWE) to gather information from parents and carers across our schools about attitudes and usage of smartphones. Similar surveys were completed in our secondary schools earlier this year and we now want to do the same for our primary schools.

Although your child is in primary school and may not yet own or use a smartphone, your views and experiences are invaluable. Your views will help us develop appropriate phone policies, provide support and guidance for you and support research into childhood in a rapidly changing digital world. Children are getting smartphones at younger ages, with many receiving them (and parents feeling pressure to provide them) during primary years. Your views will help us and researchers better understand these trends.

Please click on this survey to take part in the study.
