Friday 5th December 2025

This week in assembly, we celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities which took place on 3rd December. We looked at how throughout history people with disabilities have made huge contributions to society in a range of areas. We also visited one of our Lyfta Storyworlds to meet Aci, an advocate in Jakarta who works to improve lives of people with disabilities in Indonesia. We reflected on how similar our school values and the British Values in our National Curriculum were to the values that Aci said motivated her in her work.

Values Certificates

Well done to all of the children awarded school values certificates for showing determination this week. They were Esme, Nikolass, India, Logan, Elliott, George, Robin, Zukaima, Elsie, Rowan, Aria and Emile.

Winter Fayre Tomorrow

It's the Winter Fayre between 12.00 and 2.30pm tomorrow! Entry will be through the school gate on St John's Lane. There is all of the usual stalls and fun including the ever-popular Jolly Jars, Wrapping Room, tombola, raffle, refreshments, food and Santa's Grotto. The fayre also raises much needed money for the school that means we can continue to provide many of the extra enrichment opportunities the children experience. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Year 2 Aerospace Museum Trip

Year 2 enjoyed a trip to the Bristol Aerospace Museum as part of their history topic, 'Flight'. They saw and went on Concorde, took part in a workshop to make and fly a model Concorde and saw many other modes of transport created in Bristol over the years.

Y5 Ancient Greek Day

Y5 Ancient Greek Day was a roaring success yesterday, with outstanding costumes on show! We started the day by learning about Greek myths and fables, creating a comic strip on a fable of their choice. Then we recreated the ancient Olympics, before finishing the day with some art, based on Greek pottery.

Year 6 History trip

Year 6 enjoyed an unforgettable history trip exploring Bristol’s wartime past, beginning with a gripping visit to an authentic air raid shelter where pupils experienced the sights families once endured during the Blitz. On the guided walk through the city, the class saw powerful reminders of the era, including a remarkable fig tree that has survived since the bombings and continues to grow today. One of the most memorable stories from the day described how a “river of rats” once swept over Bristol Bridge. Locals believed the animals sensed the impending air raids before any warning sirens sounded. It was a fascinating and eye-opening journey into the city’s resilience and history.

VPPS Green Team

Congratulations to our newest Green Team. Each class elected their Eco Warriors after some very passionate speeches. We are looking forward to working with the school community to see how we can reduce our impact on the environment. We will be reviewing our school Climate Action Plan and thinking about how we can make a difference.

If you have any ideas or expertise to share, please let Mrs Walker know.

Windmill Hill City Farm’s Big Give Christmas Challenge

We’re aiming to raise £13,000 in 7 days so that we can set up a new farm ‘nurture’ group, supporting local children going through challenging times. The funding will also be used to help take care of the farm and gardens so that the group sessions can run. We can always see the great benefits of these nurture farm sessions for the children whilst they are at the farm and have been told there is also a continued positive impact in the rest of their lives.

“My son is a child that struggles at school and finds it quite difficult. The Nurture Club gives him a real boost and opportunity to shine.” Parent

Now is the time to donate as every £1 will be doubled by our match funders so please click below before 19th December and help us reach our target.
