Friday 3rd October 2025

Our school value of the week is kindness. We watched a short film called "Color Your World With Kindness" and discussed the idea of how we can all intentionally create a  culture of kindness within our school community by how we think speak and act towards each other.

The following children were awarded Values Certificates this week, many of whom were "caught" helping to create a culture of kindness in our school. Congratulations to Sienna, Alicja, Georgia, Amelia, Evie, Sennen, Bailey, Luke, Iris, Olivia, Anne, Wasif, Melissa, Finlay and Sienna.

Art on the Hill is Here!

The school will be open during Art on the Hill between 10.30am and 4.00pm tomorrow Saturday 4th October. During the day, you will be able to come and view the children's art, buy refreshments and participate in workshops. The theme of the all of the art work for the day is "Our Community". We are very proud of what the children have created over the last few weeks- come and have a look for yourselves and see why!

The PTFA will also be selling refreshments at the event to fundraise for the artwork sessions that enabled the exhibition, please come along to support us. We will also be taking bookings for prints of the artwork so you can buy a reproduction of your child's piece!

The details of the workshops that will take place in the school are listed here on the Art on the Hill website

See you there!

Green Team Winners!

Our amazing Green Team have won an award for their brilliant Project Power initiative at the end of last year. The team came up with a list of actions to help reduce energy use in school including switch-off signs, writing to our local MP, monitoring classrooms at break and lunch, interviewing Mark (our site manager) and reminding staff and classmates to switch off lights, whiteboards and plugs.

The Green Team attended an awards ceremony this week at Sparks in Broadmead and got to see BBC wildlife presenter Naomi Wilkinson, met Dr Mya-Rose Craig aka BirdGirl and took part in an Aardman clay workshop.

There were three levels of award; Acorn, Sapling and Oak. Our amazing Eco Warriors achieved the top Oak award!

They were brilliant ambassadors for our school and the planet - and even got up in front of over 100 people to tell them all about Project Power.

Games Makers

This week a group of Year 5 and 6 children completed our first session of playground leadership training to help them in their role as Games Makers.  The children all applied for the positions by completing a job application form.  We were overwhelmed with the eagerness of children to take up this leadership role, so much so that we have had to book in a second training session for later in the year so that all those who applied are given the opportunity to have a go.  Our first cohort spent the morning with James from Ashton Park Sports Partnership and Mrs Jones (one of our lunchtime supervisors) learning how to lead games and facilitate play for children at lunchtime.

We are very much looking forward to seeing them in the new roles starting next week.

School Council

Our new school council reps were presented with their badges this week and have been wearing them with pride around school.  We are looking forward to having our first meeting next week.

Attendance and Punctuality

Our attendance took a drop again last week.  We understand there are lots of bugs doing the rounds at the moment.  Please remember to send your children back to school as soon as they are well enough to attend, remember the NHS guidelines can help you make this decision.

A Message from the Playteam

Please can you label any property, this makes it easier to return  items left in the playground at the end of lunch. Any items not labeled will go in the lost property box located in the office area. Currently the lost property box is very full. Please feel free to pop into the office to check for any lost property. Any unclaimed property will be donated.

School Governor Vacancy

We currently have a vacancy on our Local Governing Body (LGB) for a member of the parent and carer community. A letter inviting applications for the role has been emailed out to all parents and carers. In the letter you find more information about the role of the local governing body, the role of a parent governor and how to apply. Here it is again in case you missed it.

Rugby Festival

On Sunday 28th September some of Year 4 children from Broad Plain Rugby Club took part in a U9 rugby festival at Ashton Gate Stadium. The children really enjoyed the experience.

Royal Albert Hall

On Sunday 21st September, a group of children from Victoria Park had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London with their theatre company (Theatre Train) that they attend outside of school.  The children performed brilliantly and we are very proud of them for performing in such a prestigious venue.
