Friday 23rd May 2025

We had a familiar visitor in our whole school assembly this week. Bryony from Bristol City Council's Active Travel team launched our "Walk to School Week". This is a national campaign to highlight the benefits of active travel - helping healthy lifestyles and improving air quality in our communities. At Vicky Park, we do a lot to encourage this each day and have had recognition through our Modeshift Stars award so it was great to have Bryony back with us with ideas of what more we could do. There is more information below about the various activities the children took part in various activities this week to promote active travel.

This week children were awarded Values Certificates for being "caught" showing any of our school values. Well done the following children who were given Value Certificates this week: Reid, Alice, Ezra, Armani, Ephraim, Will, Dylan, Shane, Lillyann and Felix.

Term 6 Curriculum Newsletters

Each term we provide a Curriculum Newsletter per year group. These are written by class teachers and give an overview of the learning that will be taking place each term in your child's class. The term 6 newsletters for each year group from Reception to Year 6 can be found here.

Attendance and Punctuality

Congratulations to Beech class who are the winners of the attendance for the second week running.  Well done also to Juniper class who had no children late to school last week.

Updates from CST

Please have a look at the latest CST parent and carers' newsletter and an update on the proposed merger which are below.

Walk to School Week

We've had a great week raising awareness of active travel in school as part of Living Streets' Walk To School Week. It is a national campaign to highlight the benefits of active travel - helping healthy lifestyles and improving air quality in our communities.

Active Travel AssemblyBryony from Bristol City Council's Active Travel team, launched the week with an assembly all about why and how we can travel more actively.

Reception made a graph of how they all got to school and talked about all the different ways of travelling.

Shoesday - We had a lot of fun celebrating walking and wheeling to school with some brilliant and whacky shoe accessories! Thank you for all your support and creativity with this initiative - it certainly got us talking about how we get to school!

Pedometer Challenge

Year 5 have been taking part in a pedometer challenge, seeing if they can collaboratively walk the distance from Bristol to London and Bristol to Loch Lomond in Scotland. Well done Year 5 for pounding the playgrounds to get your steps up!

Green Team Litterpick

Our amazing Eco Warriors went out litterpicking around our local area last week. They found all sorts of exciting items amongst all the rubbish and did a brilliant job of cleaning up the streets, making our neighbourhood look nicer and protecting wildlife.

Quadkids Event

On Wednesday, eight children from Year 6 represented the school at a Quadkids event. Each child participated in four events: 75m sprint, 600m run, long jump and howler throw. They all demonstrated amazing determination to compete in each event and they should be incredibly proud of their efforts. All of the scores were compiled to create a team score with Victoria Park narrowly missing out on third place. A brilliant achievement by all and a special mention to Elsa and Ellen who came third and fourth individually out of all of the girls.

Gromit Unleashed

We are excited to announce that Victoria Park Primary will be taking part in the Gromit Unleashed trail again this summer.  The PTFA have kindly supported us to buy a Norbot the Gnome for our school who will form part of the trail and then return to us next academic year to sit alongside Gromit and Shaun the sheep who are already popular features within our school.

Today the children should have come home with a sheet for them to submit their designs for our Norbot.  The deadline for designs to be handed in is Friday 13th June.  If you need a spare copy you can download one here.

We have set a fundraising target of £1000 (to pay for the sculpture and donate to the Wallace and Gromit appeal) and the school council will be letting you know next term how you can get involved.
