Sports Week and Sports Day

This week has been an incredibly busy sporting week at VPPS. To celebrate National Sports Week, every child has had the opportunity to participate in various different sports and sporting activities including: dodgeball, seated volleyball, parachute games as well as egg and spoon races. It has been fantastic to see the children being active and the laughter and kindness filling the school during these events.

The highlight of the week for so many of the children has been Sports Day. There was a wonderful atmosphere across all three events, which were all attended in great numbers.

Reception kicked off the day with a fun-filled carousel of events with parents and carers joining in with their children in a range of throwing, running and jumping events. What a great way to expose the children to participating in sporting events!

The rest of the school was split over a morning and afternoon session. The children competed in their house teams in various events included, relay races, javelin and speed bounce. It was fantastic to see the children demonstrating their teamwork skills to encourage their team. Congratulations to Campbell who won in the morning session and Stephenson in the afternoon. The overall winners by an incredibly close margin were Aardman! Well done to everyone who participated.

Here are some photos from the week, with more to follow on Instagram so keep your eyes peeled!

Values Certificates Winners

Our children who received Values Certificates for being role models for our school values were Oisin, Reid, Hadley, Matilda, Ammaar, Ahmed, Leo J and Gracie. Well done all of you!

Year 6 Careers Fair

Our Year 6 pupils had an exciting and inspiring trip to St Werburgh’s Primary School, where they attended a careers fair. After travelling by train, the children explored a wide range of career paths by speaking with professionals from industries such as engineering, media, emergency services and publishing to name a few. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to discover the world of work and start thinking about their own futures!

Green Team Filming News

Our amazing Green Team had an exciting day filming with the charity Butterfly Conservation this week.

They got to meet some magical moths, planted lots of pollinator-friendly plants and were interviewed about all the things we have done to help biodiversity in school. Well done Eco Warriors for showing all our school values and being brilliant ambassadors for the school - and the environment! We look forward to sharing the film with you when it is ready.

Butterfly Conservation's Big Butterfly Count is taking place from 18th July - 10th August - you can help conservationists by counting butterflies!

NSPCC visit

This week we had volunteers from the NSPCC come in to school and do workshops with our Year 2, 5 and 6 children.  The workshops followed on from the assemblies the children had over the last two weeks thinking about the theme "Speak out, stay safe."  The children listened attentively and demonstrated our school values throughout.  The NSPCC volunteers commented how polite and engaged the children which was lovely to hear.

Norbot the Gnome

We are delighted to announce our Norbot the Gnome has finally arrived in school.  Thank you to all the children who submitted designs for him, we are looking closely through them to work out how to mix as many designs together as we can.  Over the next few weeks we will be busy getting him ready to be displayed for you all to see.

The school council have also been working on fundraising ideas for the Wallace and Gromit Appeal which provides support to Bristol Children's hospital.  On 16th July we will be hosting a Wrong Trousers Day at school. We would like all children to come to school wearing their school T-shirt but they can be creative with their choice of shorts/trousers.  The crazier the better!  Look out for more details about this event over the coming weeks.

Summer Fayre

The Summer Fayre is here! It will be tomorrow Saturday 21st June, 12.00-2.30pm.

For more information on the exciting things that will be happening please see the flyer below. See you there!!

Attendance and Punctuality

Congratulations to Mangrove class for the best attendance last week.  Please remember school starts at 8:45, if you are coming through the gate after this your child is already late.  We are trialing opening the small gate on Raymend Road to get everyone through quicker but the gates will close at 8:50am.  Please make an extra effort to get to school on time.

CST Parent & Carer Survey

Please find below a link to this year's CST parents and carers survey. This year, we will be closing the survey before the end of term on Monday 30th June at 9.00am. This form asks you about your experience of your child's education. The responses are treated anonymously and confidentially to identify what we are doing well and what we can do better. If you have more than one child at school, you only need to complete the survey once. This survey comes from CST and is the same across all of our schools and academies. Thank you for taking time to complete these questions.

The link for the survey is here:

Potential Issue School Meal Bookings This Weekend

We have been informed by our school bookings provider of an error on the meal booking system. Whilst they are working to fix the issue before Sunday's deadline you might experience problems when trying to book your child's meals for next week.

If you are unable to book your child(ren)'s meal please do not worry: If the issue is not fixed in time, the class teacher will be able to book a meal for any children who require it.

If the app is still not fixed and you are unable to see or book on Sunday, to help your teacher effectively book meals on Monday, it is very important that your child knows what they would like to eat, so please make sure your child knows which of the following options they would like.

Monday's menu is:

Mains

Cheese and Tomato Pizza & Wedges

Tomato and Salmon Pasta

Jacket Potatoes with Cheese / Beans or Tuna

Pasta and Cheese sauce

Halal Chicken Roll

Cheese Roll

Please note - If you have already successfully booked next week's meal prior to this message being received, the provider has assured us that your choices should still be saved and there will be no action needed.

A Message From the Playteam

As the weather is getting hotter, it is really important that the children bring in hats and water bottles for when they are outside in the playground, and sun cream that they will need to apply themselves.

A little reminder that our lost property is currently full at the moment. Any lost property not collected will be donated.
