Friday 18th July 2025

Whilst others might be winding we have kept our foot on the gas with another very busy week at VPPS. We have completed our moving up mornings, worn the wrong trousers, managed to have our Big Summer Sing despite the weather and even had a visit from the Premier League trophy!  We're not quite at the end of the year yet, as we have more to come in our Year 6 leavers' events on Monday and Tuesday next week.

However, the Big Summer Sing does mark the end of our calendar of whole school events in which all of our wider community is involved. Thank you to everyone who came today. The children sang beautifully and your enthusiastic support for them was fantastic. The Big Summer Sing is a showcase of all of the singing that has been going on in the school during the Spring and Summer terms, in both singing assemblies and our school choirs. It is also a way of all coming together as a school community to mark the end of another school year together. I hope you found it a memorable and fitting way to mark the (near!) end of the school year.

Wrong Trouser Day

Thank you to all the children and staff who took part in Wrong Trouser Day on Wednesday.  We saw a wide variety of wacky and wonderful trousers and shorts on display from pyjamas to glittery leggings, not forgetting Mr Gunner's superhero trousers.  The day was a big success and the money raised together with the money from the ice-lolly sale is approximately £400 so far.   We are just short of our £500 target.  The payment option on the gateway is still open until Monday if you have not yet made a donation or if you can donate an extra £1 we and the Wallace and Gromit Appeal would be very grateful.

Premier League Trophy visit

Yesterday, the children were incredibly lucky to have the Premier League trophy in school for them to see. They had an assembly where they were able to ask questions about the trophy (it cost £300,000 to make!) and learnt lots of interesting information. KS1 also had a visit from Red the Robin, Bristol City's mascot during the assembly. This was an incredible opportunity for the children and one that they (and the staff) were very excited about!

Norbot the Gnome

This week saw the unveiling of our very own Victoria Park Norbot.  He looks amazing!!!  The children whose designs were chosen to contribute to the final design were awarded with a special certificate this week.  They were:

William Menadue, Gwen Summers, Anayah Bhatti, Isabelle Evans, Dylan Horsington, Dylan Fox, Ted Chatterton, Elsa Howiantz, Nina Fox, Dara Horsington, Lacey Tuck, Charley Creed, Bee Ho-Yan Davies, William Russell-Smith, Lea Evans, Matilda Mawby-Wales and Jack Staley.

An extra big thank you to Lucy Fox for helping the children's vision come to life and to Dave Horsington for giving Norbot a protective spray.

Year 6 Poetry Slam

Last week, Year 6 took part in an exciting Poetry Slam event at Ashton Gate Primary. The children enjoyed a high-energy morning compered by a professional poet, Jonny FluffyPunk, and watched by all the Year 6 classes involved. A poetry slam is a lively competition where poets perform their original poems to an audience and a panel of judges - with plenty of cheering and clapping along the way! Four groups from our school entered the competition, performing The Toilet Gnome’s HomeA Narrow EscapeA Day at the Beach, and The Beach. Every group gave an amazing performance and we were thrilled to come third overall with A Day at the Beach. Well done to all our brilliant performers!

Rocksteady Concert

The summer Rocksteady concerts took place last week during which pupils rocked the roof off the main hall. The bands were amazing and the atmosphere, electric! A huge well done to all involved. Rock!

Attendance and Punctuality

Congratulations to Cherry and Beech class who were top of our attendance board last week with 99.33%.  We are nearly there, the end of term is insight but please remember school is still open to all children on Monday and Tuesday next week.  We will be announcing our term 6 winners in assembly on Monday afternoon.

Swift Kitchen app

From September we will have a new school dinner provider called, Aspens. Your child's lunches will be booked on a new app called, Swift Kitchen.

A letter will come home with your child today with full instructions on how to set up your new account using a unique code.  Please note this app is for school dinners only.

Do not delete the school gateway app as this will still be used for communication, after school club and event bookings.

VPPS Parent Pact 2025 / 26

As you are no doubt aware, there is a growing movement of parents in Bristol (and across Britain) who are choosing to wait to give their children smartphones.

The Parent Pact is a way to join together with other families at Victoria Park Primary School to agree to delay getting your child a smartphone, either for the duration of primary school, or until they are 14.

It's all about strength in numbers

It takes 30 seconds to sign the Parent Pact.

Partnership for Inclusion and Neurodiversity  Project (PINs)

We’re excited to let you know that our school has been selected to take part in the Partnership for Inclusion and Neurodiversity  Project (PINs) – a national project funded by the ICB and designed to help schools better support neurodivergent pupils.

As part of this project, schools can access £3,500 worth of tailored support, including expert-led training and resources aimed at improving how we meet the needs of our neurodivergent students.

To help shape our involvement, we’re asking all parents and carers to complete a short survey, linked here. Your views will play an important part in identifying priorities and helping us show how our school aligns with the goals of the project.

Please note: only 10 schools will be selected to take part, so this is an amazing opportunity for our school community.

Bristol Parent Carers Forum will be visiting school in terms 2, 3 and 4 to host coffee mornings at which they will explain more about the feedback received through our surveys and the training and resources that will be delivered to the school through the PINs project.

Again, here is the link to the survey:
