Friday 9th December 2022

Our school has been a hive of activity this week, from the very well-attended Winter Fayre last Friday evening, to RE days, Design and Technology days, Nativity rehearsals, Science experiments and choir practices. We hope you will be able to join us for at least one of the festive sharing events over the coming days.

Green Team

Congratulations to all our new Eco Warriors this year, who have been elected by their classmates to help our school become even more 'eco'. The Green Team have been busy this term, making sure all our classrooms have the correct recycling available and sorting our used pens and gluesticks to be recycled. We also wrote to local garden centres to ask for donations of plants and compost, and made posters to go up around school.
This week we talked about the environmental impact of Christmas and how we can help to reduce it. Here is the list we came up with - hopefully it will help you to have a green Christmas too. If you change just one thing it can make a big difference.

Sporting Updates

Last week was a busy week of sport for Year 5 & 6 children. On Monday 28th, Mr Kellow and Mrs Casling organised a mixed football trial session for 35 eager football players. They all played in a number of games to showcase their individual skills, teamwork and positive attitude. Players will be chosen to represent the school in future tournaments and friendly matches based on these trials.
On Wednesday, 21 members of VPPS Girls football squad met for their second session. The aim was to have fun, focus on fitness and learn some skills. It began with some skills and drills organised by three visiting Sports Leaders from Year 12 at Ashton Park Sixth Form. This was followed by some one-on-one and two-on-two games. The girls are already showing improvement in their skills due to their commitment, concentration and focus. Letters for the next girls’ squad sessions and friendly matches will be sent out after Christmas.
Finally, on Thursday 1st December, 14 enthusiastic athletes competed in a range of running, throwing and jumping events against other local primary schools at a Sportshall festival. Many children tried new events for the first time such as speed bounce, vertical jump and triple jump. With usual Victoria Park spirit, all 14 children tried their best, showing determination, super speed, brilliant bouncing and fantastic team work. Well done to Jasmine, Ella, Evie, Lois, Isabelle, Ester, Bea, Orson, Oscar, Kyree, Adan, Nathaniel, Max and Jacob.

Recent Fundraising

This is the total amount of money raised for the Poppy Appeal and Children in Need.

Poppy Appeal = £166.35
Children in Need = £612.68

This is particularly impressive considering the increased cost of living at the moment. Thank you for your generosity.

A message from Batch Cook Club

Hello! We are Laurie and Seema, two local mums who want to bring joy back to the kitchen and make meal times easier - and we need your help! Batch Cook Club is an idea we have to bring people together in fun and informative sessions that fill your freezers with nutritionally balanced, delicious meals.

We are looking at ways Batch Cook Club can benefit the community and this survey is the start of our journey:  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/ZMP35CW

A few parents and carers have asked if pupils may wear something festive on Wednesday next week, which coincides with Christmas lunch. Although our non-uniform day is on the last day of term (Friday) we are happy if children also wish to wear a festive jumper or other item for their Christmas lunch too! We hope you have a lovely weekend.
