Friday 28th April 2023

Welcome to this week's newsletter. It has been a busy week of performance and celebration in school. We hope you are able to join us today from 3pm to share some food in the playgroud as part of today's Eid Celebration!

Stages 2023

On Sunday 23rd April, a dedicated group of dancers took to the floor to perform at this year's Stages. The group - who have been rehearsing under the watchful eye of their coach and tutor Lucy for the past 12 weeks - performed an anarchic version of "Revolting Children" from the musical production of Matilda. It was incredible to see their performance, precision and pride. Special thanks go to the staff members who gave up their free time on a Sunday morning to support the children and make this possible, and of course to Lucy for being such a brilliant coach!

CST Music Concert

On Wednesday evening, our KS2 choir performed at the iconic Bristol Cathedral as part of the CST music concert. They were joined by pupils from all nine Cathedral Schools Trust primary and secondary academies to sing and play together. The highlight for many was being able to sing with a real band and orchestra made up of secondary and sixth form pupils. We would like to thank Mrs Vaughan for working so hard with the choir this year, and for making this wonderful opportunity possible.

Year 6 SATs

As you may know, pupils in year 6 have been working really hard to prepare for their end of KS2 assessments in Reading, Grammar, Spelling, Maths and Writing. It's amazing to see how well they are doing - they show determination and success on a daily basis. The SATs take place the week after next, from 9th to 12th of May (after the King's coronation bank holiday). We do lots to make sure the children feel calm and relaxed so they are able to do their best on the day. Well done Year 6 - and good luck!

Year 2 SATs

There are also KS1 assessments which take place in school. Unlike the Year 6 SATs, these can take place at any point during the month of May. We are able to spread these out and take children in small groups to complete their booklets, so mostly the children don't realise an assessment is taking place - it's just part of an ordinary school day. We are really proud of the progress all of our children have made this year.

Green Superstars

Our Green Team have made a great little film about how to look after the environment. Take a look here:

No Mow May is coming

If you have a garden or patch of grass, or if you know someone who does, please encourage them not to mow it in May. A healthy lawn with some long grass and wildflowers benefits wildlife, tackles pollution and can even lock away carbon below ground. All you have to do is not mow your lawn in May! Sit back, relax and enjoy the local wildlife instead of mowing the lawn.

Triathalon Team

Toby, Leo, Leo and Elliot in Year 4 (also known as The Hippy Squad) will be taking part in the Clifton Schools Triathlon on 7th May. The boys will be raising money for two charities: "Restless Development" and "The Matthew Tree Project". If you would like to help them reach their fundraising target, please click on this Just Giving link:

Are you/your children also taking part in this triathalon event? If you would like to share your fundraising link in this newsletter, please email victoriaparkp@victoriaparkprimary with the details!
