Friday 22nd September 2023

Welcome to this week's newsletter. Our school value this week has been kindness, with children demonstrating small acts of kindness to their friends; holding a door open, offering to help, paying a compliment. Teachers had a particularly hard job choosing just one values certificate winner this week, because so many children are consistently kind!

Parent and Carer Survey

Thank you to those who took the time to complete our end-of-year survey in July. The feedback was discussed at our Term 1 Governors' meeting this week. The Local Governing Body (LGB) will be working with our school leaders to analyse the feedback and draw out key themes, as part of their ongoing role in monitoring school improvement across the year. (To see a summary of this year's School Development Plan, you can look at the School Development page of our website.)

Instrumentalists Wanted

Do you play an instrument? Would you be available to come and perform in a school assembly? We are hoping to inspire and entertain our children with instrumental performances in school over the course of this academic year. If you are able to come into school between 12:30pm to 1:30pm on a Monday, and would be willing to perform for the children in assembly, please email victoriaparkp@victoriaparkprimary.co.uk to let us know.

PTFA - New School Parent Community App

The PTFA will be using a new app to help with communication and organisation starting from this year. The app is called "Classlist" and has the following benefits:

  • slightly cheaper transaction fees for events, reducing the cost for parents
  • a user friendly app which allows messages as well as listing events and PTFA information
  • the PTFA hope this will reduce admin time for the PTFA committee, class reps and make communications more efficient

Existing parents - the PTFA will ensure that information stored on the old app "pta-events" is removed.
The PTFA invite all parents and carers to register on "Classlist" as soon as possible to ensure that you are ready and familiar with the site before events start to happen this term. Register here, using this link.

A Request from Year 1

Year 1 would love some retractable tape measures if you have any spare that need a new home!

Other Information

  • In December an exciting Drone show experience is coming to Bristol. Evolution is a narrated show with hundreds of drones that explores the journey of our evolution, starting from the Big Bang, through to the dinosaurs and up until the present day. It’s the first time a show like this, with a narrated story, has come to the area and it’s a great opportunity for young minds as it’s both educational and magical to watch! Early bird tickets are available and there are child and concession tickets too: https://www.yuup.co/evolution/bristolEvolution Drone Light Show will also feature a funfair, music and a food village. The show is an eco-friendly and wildlife-kind alternative to fireworks, with all of the drones being powered by 100% renewable energy. See the poster below.
  • Unicornfest are hosting a Farewell Festival at Propyard this Saturday and Sunday, the 23rd and 24th of September. See all the unicorns from the magical Unicornfest 2023 celebrations in one place! All 60 mystical unicorns painted by local artists and the 40+ foals painted by local schools around Bristol will be on display for the last time before they go to their stables. Spend time with all the amazing unicorns you missed on the trail, get pictures with your favourite unicorns, and see up-close the amazing details that have gone into creating these magical beasts. It’s a great day out for the whole family! There will be a DJ supplying the tunes, and there will be bar and food options available.

  • St George's is a world-class concert venue in Bristol, that puts on a wide range of concerts every year. They work with professional artists and local groups in genres including classical, jazz, folk and global music. The newsletter below details upcoming children's events at St George's and a free ticket offer to some of the concerts (for 8+ year olds).

Congratulations to Campbell House who are the current House Point Champions! House Points are given to pupils by staff members for showing team spirited actions which benefit others (such as holding of doors, helping to tidy, volunteering, and so on). Each week in Celebration Assembly, teachers announce the winning house in their class. The house with the most votes each week is awarded with a coloured ball in the House Points display. When a house reaches ten balls, they are declared winner!
