Friday 8th October 2021

Welcome to this week's newsletter. Everyone was very excited last Friday for our whole school photograph, taken from above by a flying drone! The result is impressive and we hope to get lots of copies printed for you to purchase. This year we will mark our 125th anniversary with a range of activities.

Celebration of Autumn

We are currently making plans for you to come and join us in school during the last week of this term, to hear the children singing as part of our Celebration of Autumn. Children have been learning Autumn songs to perform for you, so we hope you will be able to pop in to enjoy them. This is the first time we will be able to perform for an audience in many, many months; we intend to keep the performance brief and informal - possibly using our outside spaces if the weather allows, and performing with just a few year groups at a time. We will email you with more details soon.

Autumn Food Bank Collection

This year we will be supporting The Matthew Tree Project with our Autumn Food Bank Collection. Starting next week, we invite you to donate long-lasting food and toiletries by bringing them into school - each classroom will have a collection box. (Please check the use by/best before date on all food items.) Thank you in advance for your donations.

The Zero-Wasters visit Victoria Park Primary School

Our dedicated Green Team were paid a visit by the Zero Wasters from Bristol Waste yesterday, as part of their Waste Nothing Schools Challenge launch. Professor Zero explained the five challenges in your child's booklet and introduced us to some of the other zero waste characters.

Have you been waste busting this week?

Well done to all our amazing Victoria Park 'zero wasters' for completing those missions at home this week! It has been great to see all your ideas for reducing waste and reusing things. Keep up the good work and help us win prizes and 'keep it green' by completing all the challenges and returning the booklets to your class teacher by Monday 18th October. More information can be found here.

Parking safely

We have been alerted to some dangerous parking on the streets around school. Some drivers are parking over the curbs and cycle paths around St John's Lane, which creates a hazard for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

If you need to drive to school, please use our nominated Park & Stride location at the Brunel Pub. You can park safely, for free, and walk the final part of your journey from there.

Tag Rugby - Week 2

The sun shone on our second week of tag rugby and the team enjoyed playing four games against a mixture of local primary schools. Captains Ludo and Oscar reported that "the team played amazingly and showed many of the school values in their games and behaviour. They showed determination by keeping their heads up and respect by working together and listening to each others' ideas. Overall, we lost two games and won two games." Roll on next Monday and more tag rugby!

Friends of Victoria Park Primary School

Thank you to everyone who supported our cake sale at the Art Trail on Saturday - with your help we raised a massive £330! The money goes towards enrichment activities for our children: those little extras - like the recent drama workshops - which the school might otherwise struggle to fund.

PTFA Quiz – 14 Oct – Tickets on Sale Now

The PTFA isn't just about raising money, of course - we're also here to build the school community with social events like our forthcoming quiz night on 14 Oct. Enter as a team of 6, or turn up and find a team on the night. It's a great way to have fun and get to know other parents.

Our quizmasters, Pete and Jackie, will be serving up their usual brand of quizzy questions: fun, entertaining and at times perplexing! This event is a great way to get to know other parents at the school - enter as a team of 6, or turn up and find a team on the night. Sadly, we're not able to offer meals this year, but there'll be nibbles on the tables and our licensed bar will be open to buy a drink or two. Book your tickets now at!

We’ll also be holding the world’s fastest PTFA AGM…telling you about what we’ve been up to over the last 18 months, and signing the latest version of our constitution.
