Friday 5th November 2021

Happy Diwali to anyone celebrating this festival of light. We wish you a Diwali that brings happiness, prosperity and joy to the whole family!

Promises to our Planet

This week in assembly, pupils learned about the COP26 summit and heard the story "The Promise" by Nicola Davies (you can watch it here). Linked to this week's value of Determination, pupils explored how our collective efforts can make a difference to CO2 emissions, waste, energy production and sustainable choices. Each pupil has created a promise leaf which will form part of our promise tree, soon to be constructed in school.

Staff news

After many years at Victoria Park Primary School, Mrs Wielowska has decided to leave in order to spend more time with her family. Mrs Wielowska works as a Teaching Assistant across the school and has worked in lots of different year groups, most recently in Year 6. Her last day will be next Friday. Good luck Paulina!

COVID contact tracing

Thank you for continuing to be vigilant, looking our for COVID symptoms in your children, using rapid home testing, and informing us of any pupils absences or illnesses. We have been asked to share the following sources of information with you about contact tracing in education and childcare settings.

ODD SOCKS DAY

We will be celebrating our differences for ODD SOCKS DAY on Monday 15th November. This is part of Anti-Bullying Week 2021, with the theme "One Kind Word". We are looking forward to sharing this year's Andy and the Odd Socks tune when it is released, as it features VPPS pupils!

Donations for the Winter Fair

The Winter Fair will take place on the 4th Dec but we need your help! We’re asking VPPS families to donate prizes for our stalls. Next week is the turn of the bottle tombola...

If you feel able to donate a bottle (beer, wine, cider, spirits, mixers, etc.) for the bottle tombola we would be very grateful. Please bring it into class any day next week (8th-12th November) . Thank you!

PTFA Meeting – 11 Nov

PTFA meetings are open to all. Whether you’ve got ideas to share, or you’d just like to listen in, we’d love to see you!

The next meeting will be held on Zoom from 8:00-9:30pm on Thurs 11 Nov. You’ll need the Meeting ID (860 8965 7346) and Passcode (VPPS) to dial in. Amongst other things we’ll be discussing plans for the Winter Fair, so do please come along and get involved!

Christmas Cards – coming Soon…

Our annual holiday and Christmas card fundraiser will be launching soon. Children in each class have created some wonderful greetings cards and order forms will be sent home with your child shortly.

Please consider supporting the school by purchasing cards, mugs and other holiday-themed items when you receive your order form.  These make really special gifts and also help support the school’s activities for children.

Regular Giving

Could you support our work through our regular giving scheme? A regular gift of as little as £2/month really helps us fund those little extras which aren't covered by the school budget - theatre performances, "play-in-a-week", school trips, and much more.

If you’d like to contribute to the work of the Friends of Victoria Park Association, you can make a one-off or regular donation here: https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/15362

Big Books

Would you like any of these big books? We have recently had a clear-out and found these much-loved books are spare, surplus or a little worn around the edges. They may be useful for an art project, or donating to other organisations. Please get in touch with Mrs Walker if you are interested in having a look at these books before we recycle them.

Bristol Waste Nothing Challenge

A big green thank you to everyone who brought in their Bristol Schools Waste Nothing challenge booklets. It was really brilliant to see all your creative, waste-busting ideas. We have counted them all, sent our numbers to Bristol Waste and are waiting with our fingers crossed to see if we have won a prize! Your booklets will come home again so you can carry on being amazing Eco Warriors.

Hedgehog Update

With bonfire night this weekend, remember to #rememberhedgehogs! They often choose to nest in bonfire piles, so build on the day you intend to burn and check for any small visitors before lighting.

The BS3 Hedgehog Project will be at the Tobacco Factory on North Street on the 8th November (at 1830-2000) or 9th November (at 1400-1530) November for a talk about the project as part of the BS3 Helping Others group (local volunteering agency).

Finally, if you have hedgehogs in your garden or have seen them on the streets around BS3, please fill in the questionnaire.

Parents and carers of pupils with SEND

The SEND team in Bristol are working alongside a  community interest group called Murmuration Community Therapy (weebly.com). Murmuration are developing a video that will help to train SEND professionals to engage with parents and carers of children with SEND with empathy and understanding. Murmuration would like to hear from people who have had positive and negative experiences so that they can feed both into the training video. Click the flyer below for more details.

Thank you for your donations of food and toiletries for the Matthew Tree Project at the end of last term. Your generosity will help to empower and support people who have fallen into crisis, for whatever reason, to rebuild their lives and create a better, healthier, happier future. It was lovely to see so many families at our Celebration of Autumn on the last day of term too. We are currently making plans for our Christmas celebrations, including the Nativity performances during the last week of term in December; more details will follow soon. Have a lovely weekend!
