Friday 5th February 2021

We start this week's newsletter with a video message from Mr Bailey about our move to Seesaw for remote learning.

Message for Parents and Carers

Earth Week 2021

We are celebrating our Cathedral Schools Trust Earth Week across the school next week (8th-12th February). Look out for all the exciting Eco learning for your classes on Seesaw. We will be joining the Climate Coalition for their #showthelove campaign and we'll be lighting up the school windows along Atlas Road over half term with messages about what we want to protect on our planet. We'd love all our school community at home to join in too so why not decorate your window with eco messages and send us your pictures. For more information, look out for messages from your class teachers next week. You can find out more about the campaign here:

Critical Worker Request for Information

In case you missed it, this morning we emailed a letter to all parents and carers of children currently accessing our Critical Worker provision, requesting that they provide a letter from their employer. Click to document below for full details.

Update your details

Have you moved house? Please let us know... this week we delivered our Seesaw letters to discover that some families had moved out but not informed us. Please get in touch with the office to update your address, telephone contact details and email addresses if they have changed.

National Storytelling Week 2021

To celebrate National Storytelling Week, The Wild of the Words have put together an 'outdoor storying' project called "Fairytrails". This is designed for everyone - age isn't important - it's all about enjoying the great outdoors and delighting in the sharing of stories! It's totally free and will help you connect with the wild outside in a new and unique way! This is all about transforming your next walk into more of a mission 'STORY'! New Equipment in Playground 2

We are very excited to announce that our new climbing equipment in the middle playground is complete! Since the start of this year, children in years 3 and 4 have been unable to enjoy the apparatus in the other two playgrounds. Miss Datta's class wrote some very persuasive letters to Mr Bailey requesting an investment in their facilities and proved the truth in the old adage "If you don't ask..." Take a look at the photos below!

Online Workshops
After the success of last week’s online yoga workshop (thanks Alice) there’s still time to sign-up for our final two workshops. Banish the lockdown blues, connect with other families, and learn a new skill! You’ll have to be quick: bookings close this afternoon…

Cookalong Workshop  -  Sat 6 Feb 2:00-3:00pm

Cookalong with Sarah from Kitchen Titbits as she shows you how to create some delicious and sustaining snacks: perfect for keeping hunger at bay! Together we’ll be making some savoury muffins and a frozen yoghurt and fruit bark. Yum! The list of ingredients and equipment you’ll need will be sent to you by email after booking. Adults and (supervised) children welcome!

Origami Diamonds Workshop - Sun 7 Feb, 2:00-3:30pm
One for the grown-ups: learn to make 3D origami diamonds, during this online workshop with Karin and Rosie from Mindful Craft Bristol. This workshop will introduce you to the mindful craft of origami. In this 90-minute session you will learn how to fold origami diamond decorations. These are suitable for beginners but do require some concentration! The price of the workshop includes premium papers to fold 6 diamonds (these will be delivered to your door in advance of the workshop).

PTFA Buys Tablets for School
Thanks to YOUR help, we’ve been able to buy 7 much-needed Amazon Tablets to supplement the school’s IT provision during the pandemic. Thank you to everyone who’s made a donation to the PTFA – every penny helps enrich our children’s education!

Supporting the PTFA’s Charitable Aims

Thank you to everyone who’s already signed up to our regular giving scheme. If you’d like to make a small gift to contribute to the work of the Friends of Victoria Park Association, you can make a one-off or regular donation here:

https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/15362
You can give us much or as little as you like: even a regular gift of just £2/month would really help during these difficult times. Every penny goes towards supporting the school: supplementing their work by funding those little extras - theatre performances, "play-in-a-week", forest school resources, school trips, IT for homework club, and more.

Hedgehog Survey

Could you spare a few moments to help with a dissertation research project exploring the presence of hedgehogs in the city of Bristol? The survey is short and should only take around 10 minutes. It is advised that children complete the form with adult supervision. The survey is online and completely anonymous, and data collected will be handled with the utmost sensitivity following all GDPR guidelines. These are outlined at the beginning of the survey. Would you like our chicken house?

You may have noticed that our former chicken-run (visible from Atlas Road) is undergoing something of a transformation. We now have a good quality chicken house available, free to a good home - please let us know if you would like to take it off our hands.

We would like to remind you that our website is full of resources to help you. This week has been "Children's Mental Health Week" so please take a look at the Mental Health and Wellbeing page, which is full of resources, information and ideas grouped into topic areas such as anger, anxiety, low mood, bereavement and mindfulness.
