Friday 4th February 2022

Welcome to our weekly newsletter. This week, in our Values assembly, we focused on determination and hope. Children were recognised in our Celebration assembly this week for showing optimism and positivity. One image which you may be familiar with is this one:

But here is an even more optimistic view:

Staff and pupils have shown relentless positive determination in school this week and we are pleased that so many pupils and staff are now returning from illness and isolation. Although your children may have been taught by some different adults this week, we are proud to have managed using school staff who are known to the pupils. Some of our enhanced measures will continue into next week at least, to help minimise further disruption.

Safer Internet Day

Next week on Tuesday is national "Safer Internet Day". Children will be working in class to remind themselves how to stay safe in a virtual world. The poster below is provided by National Online Safety as a useful guide for parents/carers called "10 Top Tips for Respect Online: Inspiring Children to Build a Better Digital World".

Parent Governor Vacancy

The Victoria Park Primary School local Governing Body needs a new Parent Governor. Could that be you? We are really keen to improve the diversity of our governing body and would like our governing body to better represent the diversity of our families. So, if you are a parent of a child at our school and you would like to help us, please get in touch.  No prior experience is required, just a willingness to commit some time in helping us to continue to improve the school’s performance. To find out more, please come and meet some of the existing governors in playground 2 on Wednesday 9th February from 3pm or contact Juliet Turner, Clerk to Governors:

Storyboard Trail

In celebration of Spring and Half Term, we are hosting a Storyboard Walk with Koru Kids. It's an outdoor game, story and walk all in one! Children, together with their families, follow the trail to complete the story which helps Marina the Monkey get her balloon back.

It starts on Friday 18 February and runs until 13th March, and it's perfect for families with children aged 3 - 10.

Booklets and maps will be sent home in book bags during the last week of term. Visit www.korukids.co.uk/bristolwalk to find out more.

World Book Day – Pre-Loved Costume Sale – 17 Feb

It’s world book day on 3rd March and children will be invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.

Busy parents, never fear: the PTFA has got your back! We’ll be accepting donations of pre-loved world book day costumes at our donation points in the playground from 14 Feb-17 Feb. The costumes will be available to buy (alongside our ever-popular second-hand school uniform shop) in the playground after school on the 17 Feb.

Keeping clothes out of landfill, raising money for the PTFA and helping busy parents save time and money – everyone wins!

School Discos Cancelled

Just a reminder that, given the current COVID situation, we’ve decided to cancel the school discos that were planned for 10th and 15th Feb. Sorry for any disappointment this may cause.
