Friday 4th December 2020

This week's newsletter contains information about how you can help your child with reading at home, Christmas gifts, Save the Children's Christmas jumper day, news from our PTFA and an introduction to a very important member of staff.

Help your child with reading at home

We have a special section of our website which contains top tips and advice about supporting your child with their reading and phonics.  Normally at this time of year we would invite you in to a meeting about this, but as we can't do this yet, please look at the presentations by clicking here or chat with your child's teacher if you would like any further help.

Christmas Gifts

A few parents have telephoned the school recently to ask whether gifts for teachers and staff will be allowed this year, because of coronavirus restrictions.  Whilst we certainly don't expect any gifts from parents and children, we are naturally delighted if we receive them!  This year is no exception, although staff have been advised to wait 72 hours before taking home anything they are gifted.

Christmas Jumper Day - Friday 18th December 2020

It’s time to dig out your favourite Christmas Jumper! On Friday 18th December, we will be supporting Save the Children with their annual Christmas Jumper day. Children can wear a colourful or Christmas themed jumper alongside their normal school uniform.  You will be able to make a donation through the school Gateway (or you can make a cash donation if you prefer). We look forward to seeing your colourful Christmas woollies. It's fine if you don't want to take part - children can wear a school jumper as normal if they prefer. If your family does not celebrate Christmas, your child could wear a different jumper or top of their choosing.

Christmas Cracker Appeal
We've done it! Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our £1,400 target in less than 2 weeks - what a fantastic school community we have! If you'd still like to donate you can do so - anything extra that we raise will go towards buying much-needed IT equipment for the VPPS homework club. Simply click here to contribute. Thank you and Happy Christmas to all!

VPPS Planting Day - Volunteers Needed!
Thanks to all who donated so many lovely plants and bulbs for the school planters. We’re looking for a small group of volunteers (to comply with the 'rule of 6') to help with planting next Saturday (12 Dec) at 10:30am. To volunteer, please sign up through the PTFA website here. You will need to register for the site if you haven’t volunteered before, but it doesn’t take long, and you can then access more information about your PTFA. No previous gardening experience needed but if you have gardening gloves, please bring them along. We'll meet at the front entrance to the school on Atlas Road and there will be plenty of room for social distancing while we are planting. Thanks, Maria.
Next PTFA Meeting
PTFA meetings are open to anyone with a child at the school. If you’d like to hear about our latest projects, or have YOUR say in how the PTFA could better support the school, why not come along to our next meeting?

8:30pm-9:30pm on Thursday 10 Dec by Zoom (Meeting ID: 875 8335 7853, Passcode: PTFA). All VPPS parents, guardians and carers are welcome – we’d love to hear your views!

Meet Vicky

Vicky is our fabulous school cook. Throughout lockdown she kept us fed and warm with her home cooked food. Now that we are all back in school, our entire kitchen team work tirelessly to provide the new 'Innovate' school dinner menu and we're proud to say that more children than ever are choosing school dinners. As parents and carers you probably never see Vicky and the team - so we just thought you should know we are very lucky to have them here at Victoria Park Primary School.

Here is a timely reminder as the weather turns colder that children should come in to school with a jumper and coat every day. These should be labelled with their name. If you choose to send in gloves, hats and scarves, please clearly label each item with your child's name too. This really helps to prevent things going missing. Have a lovely weekend - keep warm!
