Friday 30th April 2021

Welcome to another Friday newsletter, containing information about E-safety, our new SEND coordinator, parents' evenings, after school clubs and PTFA updates.

Online Safety

With lockdown easing we're able to get out and about a bit more, so it is important we take the time to re-establish some limits on screen time with children and encourage them to find other activities to enjoy in their leisure time.

The following 3 guides are split into general advice for parents, advice for screen time for 5-7 year olds and advice for 7-11 year olds. We hope you find these useful. Please take time to talk through the importance of this with your children and lead by example.

We are delighted to let you know that we have appointed Mrs Chantelle Stirzaker to the new role of SEND coordinator and lead teacher, to begin in September 2021. Mrs Stirzaker will work closely with our SENDCo Mrs Jones in the latter part of this year to ensure a thorough handover.

Parents' Evening - Video Calls

This week you have received a letter containing your child(ren)'s personal booking PIN for our parents' evening appointment system. Please click on this link to book your video appointment:

After School Clubs

General after school clubs are still not able to run effectively due to our school COVID risk assessment. While we have been able to start a limited number of clubs funded by our COVID catch up premium and sports premium, pupils are invited to join these individually (rather than being open to all). If your child is eligible to join a club they will be contacted directly. We're sorry not to have our extensive after school extra-curricular offer at the moment, and will return to this next academic year.

A request from Year 6 parents...

We are writing to you on behalf of a group of Year 6 parents currently organising a fundraiser to buy each child in Year 6 a leavers' hoodie for the end of year. Year six pupils are not having the final year in primary school that they would normally experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are hoping with this fundraiser to at least be able to give them all a ‘leavers’ hoodie as a reminder of their time at Victoria Park Primary School. The hoodies are being printed by a local company.

We have set up a GoFundMe campaign in order to raise a minimum of £800 to pay for them, and would really appreciate your support even if your children are not in Year 6.

We are aware that parents may be struggling financially due to the pandemic. We are aiming for each child to get a hoodie regardless of whether parents have donated. If you can afford to donate any amount to this campaign, we would be very grateful. The link to the GoFundMe page where you can donate is

Massive Summer Raffle

We’ve got some fabulous prizes for our massive summer raffle, but we can always use more! If you work for a business that might be willing to donate a prize to our summer raffle, please let us know by sending an e-mail to – it’s a great way to support the school and garner some publicity for your business at the same time. We hope to start selling tickets for the raffle towards the end of May – keep your eye on this newsletter for more details.

Supporting the PTFA’s Charitable Aims

Thank you to everyone who’s already signed up to our regular giving scheme. If you’d like to make a small gift to contribute to the work of the Friends of Victoria Park Association, you can make a one-off or regular donation here:

You can give us much or as little as you like: even a regular gift of just £2/month would really help during these difficult times. Every penny goes towards supporting the school.

Last night's meeting
Many thanks to everyone who attended last night’s PTFA meeting. We had some really fruitful discussions and great ideas for next academic year. We have, however, reluctantly decided that our summer fair will not run this year. Much as we love celebrating the end of the school year, we recognise that the whole school community has worked hard to keep each other safe during this pandemic and we don’t want to jeopardise that by running a large event. But don’t worry – plans are already afoot for lots of social activities in the Autumn to make up for it!

Go on a local adventure this weekend!

Here's a super map and some fabulous resources from Avon Wildlife Trust to help you explore and discover the amazing Northern Slopes Nature Reserve right on our doorstep! You could take on the Bommie Race, supercharge your senses and learn some fun facts about local wildlife. For instance, did you know that moles paralyse worms with poison in their saliva?!

We hope you enjoy a long weekend together. Monday is a Bank Holiday so school is closed. We will see you all on Tuesday 4th May!
