Friday 29th April 2022

Welcome back to the summer term! We hope you enjoyed a relaxing break and we wish you a Happy Easter, Happy Ramadan and Happy Passover. The summer term is always busy in primary schools and we are looking forward to seeing all the hard work and learning culminate in super outcomes for children.

Book of the Week

This week’s book recommendation is ‘See What I Can Do!’ by Jon Roberts and Hannah Rounding Graffeg. This is a book which celebrates inclusivity and diversity. Each illustrated spread of this book focuses on a different group of children, each living with a different disability. The children share their experiences in conversation with one another – the autistic children, for example, converse using different forms of verbal and non-verbal communication, and discuss sensory sensitivity. The book’s glossary details each disability in further depth, with a link to online resources.

Eid Celebration - Friday 6th May 2022

Next week, we will be having an Eid celebration in school on Friday. This will be a non-uniform day, and we would love for you to wear your Eid clothes. If you don't have Eid clothes, please wear celebratory clothes (which you might wear to a party) or simply your favourite non-uniform clothing.

On the day, children will be learning about Ramadan and Eid in school (as part of an RE lesson). They will also be making decorations and sampling some traditional food.

We would like to thank all of the parents who will be helping us on the day and look forward to learning and celebrating together.

Absences from school for Eid

If children will be absent from school to celebrate Eid, please send us an email or telephone the school office to leave a message, explaining which day they will be absent. Please do remember to let us know in advance, so we don't disturb your celebrations on the day by calling you. We can authorise one day for this religious observance.

Group Chat Safety

Some children in school have access to group chats on social media or via their mobiles. The NOS (National Online Safety) has issued some guidance for parents/carers to help you to understand how to keep children safe and manage their communications. Please encourage open conversations with your children and remind them to tell a trusted adult if they are ever worried, uncertain or upset about their activity in group chats.

Piano Lessons

One of our school piano teachers, Fiona Prescott, has a small number of places available for new pupils keen to play the piano. These lessons are organised directly with Fiona, but take place during the school day. If you are interested, please let the school office know, who will pass your details to Fiona. There is also the possibility of creating a waiting list in time for when some year six pupils move on.

A message from Moose

Dear Parents/Carers,
Moose will open on May 30th & 31st and 1st June for the next holidays, subject to demand. Please look out for correspondence via IPAL, our website and facebook for information on the date and time the bookings will become available.
Many thanks,
The Moose team.

Friends of Victoria Park Primary School

Did you know that as a parent, guardian or carer of a pupil at Victoria Park Primary School, you are automatically a member of the PTFA? Also known as the Friends of Victoria Park Primary School, the PTFA is run completely by volunteers with a dual aim of raising money and building community.

Since Sept 2021, the PTFA has donated over £7,900 towards a whole host of activities to enrich our children’s education, including:

  • £350 for the Year 6 end of term trip
  • £5,250 towards Play in a Week for Y3 & Y4
  • £600 for the Lantern Parade for Yr 4
  • £540 for the Travelling Light Theatre performance of “Vixen” for Yr 3 & 4
  • £50 towards the Roustabout Theatre performance of “This Island’s Mine” for Y5 & Y6.
  • £550 for the “The Anarchist's Mobile Library” theatre experience for Y2
  • £570 towards a whole-school Jazz Workshop

So far this year, we’ve raised £6,000 (so we need to raise another £1,900 to break even) – we’d love to fund more opportunities for our children, but to do so we need to raise more money…and to do that we need YOU! Read on to find our how you can help…

Summer Fair Planning Meeting – Thurs 5 May

We’ll be meeting in the Victoria Park Pub on Raymend Road at 7:30pm on Thursday 5th May to start planning the Summer Fair over a drink or two. All are welcome! Without your support the Summer Fair may not go ahead…

UV Discos – 19 & 26 May - Tickets on Sale Now

It’s time for the first UV discos of 2022!

  • Reception = Thurs 19 May 3:15pm-4:00pm
  • Yrs 3 & 4 = Thurs 19 May 5pm-6pm
  • Yrs 1 & 2 = Thurs 26 May 3:15pm-4:30pm
  • Yrs 5 & 6 = Thurs 26 May 5pm-6pm

The price is just £4.50 and includes crisps and a drink. We don’t want anyone to miss out, so once again we’ve made free tickets available for those in financial hardship. If your child would like to attend you must book a ticket in advance at

We need lots of volunteers to help run the discos – face painters, DJs, and people to serve refreshments - it’s great fun and no previous experience is necessary. If you’re free to help, please sign-up here.

Regular Giving

If you’re not able to volunteer your time, perhaps you’d consider making a financial gift instead? You can give us much or as little as you like: even a regular gift of just £2/month really helps. If you'd like to support us in this way, you can set up a one-off or regular donation here:

So far this year, we’ve received over £600 in one-off gifts and regular donations. Thank you!
