End of Term Newsletter

Congratulations to everybody for another excellent term of learning at Victoria Park Primary School.  We are so proud that all of the children, parents, carers and staff have shown such adaptability and determination when embracing our "new normal".  This term children have learned about significant Bristolians as part of our Black History Month curriculum.  Why not see if your child can tell you what they know about Paul Stephenson, Princess Campbell, Marvin Rees and Hyacinth Hall? (And if they can't remember, take the opportunity to do some research together!)  This newsletter is jam-packed, so take a good look through...

At this time of year we normally gather together at St. Michael and All Angels Church to sing and celebrate the harvest time. Whilst this has not been possible this year, you might want to enjoy this seasonal time in other ways.  Perhaps you have been growing fruits and vegetables at home that you can eat together? Maybe you could go on an Autumn walk this weekend, looking for signs of the changing seasons in the trees and hedgerows—changing colours, animals  getting ready for the winter, and colourful fruits and berries. We have put some links below to some of our favourite harvest songs on Youtube, for you to enjoy together at home if you would like to.

To help you get in the Harvest mood, here is a video of our Autumnal activities from around school this week...

Harvest

Food Bank Collection

Thank you for your generous donations of food and products to support local food banks. This will be collected by "The Matthew Tree Project" over half term. We have supported this charity with our Harvest collection for many years and it's great that - even without our usual celebration - we can do so again, particularly at what is a challenging time for so many.

Welcome to our new site manager!

We are delighted to announce that our new site manager, Mark Burge, has started work this week. Mark knows our school and our community very well and we are all looking forward to working together.

Booking School Dinners

We are delighted that hot school dinners are back! Starting next term, it is essential that school meals are booked in advance using School Gateway.  Food is defrosted and prepared according to the number of meals ordered, so we will be unable to provide meals requested on the day.  The gateway app makes it easy to select your choices. Each week, this should be completed before Saturday evening for the week ahead.  Here is a reminder of the new menu:

Whole school story telling day - Wednesday 25th November

Please come to school in your warm and cosy pyjamas ready to enjoy a fun packed day of storytelling.  You can even bring your favourite story to share with the class too. Here is a useful document with top tips to support reading at home:

Year 6 Secondary School Applications

This is the last call for parents and carers of pupils to make an application for a Secondary school place.  Our system shows that only 40 pupils out of 60 have completed their application so far.  The deadline is 31st October.

Christmas cards

The PTFA are very happy to announce that they will be running their annual Christmas card scheme this year but there are some slight changes. Templates will be coming home during the first week of next term and this year you will be able to order and pay online. The online shop will close at midnight on Friday 13th November. The templates MUST be returned to school by Monday 16th November to the postbox by the playground exit so that templates can then be sent for scanning. If it is not returned, you will not receive your order. A further notification will be sent out at the beginning of next term with detailed instructions. We are looking forward to seeing all of your fabulous designs!

Board Game Donations

Do you have any board games which you no longer need at home?  Year 1 would love to have them! Please bring any donations into school and give them to the year 1 team.  If we receive more than enough, we will update our "wet play" boxes in the rest of the school too.
