Friday 20th November 2020

This week's newsletter contains baby news, a reminder about story telling day, important COVID reminders, information for new parents, messages from our PTFA, a message from Moose, details of our CST Virtual Christmas Concert, the CST admissions consultation, and lockdown video messages from Bristol City Council.

Baby news!

Congratulations to Mrs Culmer (teacher of Cherry class) who is expecting her first baby in the springtime. We're sure you will join us in wishing Mrs Culmer our best wishes at such an exciting time.

Whole school story telling day - Wednesday 25th November

Next Wednesday is story telling day! Please come to school in your warm and cosy pyjamas (if you would like to) ready to enjoy a fun packed day of storytelling.  You can even bring your favourite story to share with the class too. (It is fine for children to bring in a book from home on this day, however they will not be able to pass them around to other children, or handle anyone else's books.)

Important reminders

Here are a few important reminders about our risk control measures which you can help with:

  • Wear a face mask or face covering when dropping off or collecting children (unless you are medically exempt).
  • No running - please help us by reminding younger children not to run around if they are waiting with you.
  • Walk around the one way system - please don't wait on the playground for the next collection window.
  • Please stay 2m away from other adults - even if your children are in the same year group at school. Evidence shows that the majority of transmission in the community is between adults, rather than children.
  • Keep up the collective effort!

Information for new parents

Do you know any families looking for a Reception place in 2021? As we are not able to offer school tours at the moment, we have a dedicated page on our website which provides videos, documents and contact information. We will also be hosting a live Q&A session over Zoom in early December. Please help to share this link to new parents:

Christmas Cracker Appeal
Help us make Christmas at Victoria Park Primary School extra special! We'd like to give £100 to every class in the school to help make this Christmas one to remember. Each class will work with their teacher to decide what they'd like to spend their money on and we can’t wait to see what ideas they come up with!

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to run our Winter Fayre this year, but we still want to make Christmas special. We normally make several thousand pounds for the school at our Winter Fayre, so every donation counts. You can donate to our Christmas Cracker appeal here. Thank you in advance for any help you can give to bring us closer to our goal!

Support the school when you shop online
If you’re shopping the Black Friday sales, please remember to use easyfundraising! Over 4,300 shops and sites will donate to Victoria Park Primary School for FREE when you use easyfundraising to shop with them. This means you can raise donations for us no matter what you’re buying – whether that’s gadgets, electricals, games consoles, toys, clothes, gifts or anything else! These donations make a BIG difference to us and don’t cost you anything extra, so please keep us in mind while you’re grabbing a bargain. For great deals and offers, download the app for Android or iPhone, or visit
NEW – you can now support whilst you shop at Amazon too. Simply visit to register.

Class Reps
Our network of PTFA class reps do a great job of getting messages and reminders out to parents. It’s not an onerous job – once a week you’ll get a message from the PTFA and we just ask you to pass that on via your class WhatsApp or Facebook Group. We don’t currently have a class rep for Elder Class – if you’d like to volunteer (it’s literally less than 5 minutes commitment per week) then please send your name and mobile phone number to, thank you.

Community Planting Day – plant and bulb donations wanted!
On behalf of the PTFA, Maria is organising a community planting day to brighten-up the planters in front of the school. We’re looking for donations of plants and spring bulbs - anything that can be planted now to enjoy over the winter and into next spring. Please bring any donations with you when you drop-off or collect your children next week, and place them on the allocated table in the middle playground. We’ve extended the donation deadline until Friday 27th November. Also keep an eye out for the date and time of our Community Planting Day to be announced soon, all volunteers welcome!

A message from Moose

Can you help?

Moose Playscheme is urgently seeking a volunteer to serve as our treasurer. We have a dedicated team of parent volunteers from Saint Mary Redcliff and Victoria Park Primary School who as directors support the running of Moose.  Currently, we are seeking a volunteer to join the Board of Directors and serve as Treasurer. To fill this role, we are looking for someone who, desirably,  is an experienced accountant. Our Treasurer will work closely with our accountants to oversee the finances of Moose playscheme and provide financial updates to the Board of Directors. There are many reasons to volunteer now:

  • you will be involved in shaping the future of a wonderful playscheme,
  • during the coronavirus epidemic it's vital that we have a strong team of directors, and
  • we are obligated by law to have a treasurer, without one we will have to close!

Please support Moose and consider joining our directors as Treasurer.  It’s a great way to give back to an organization that supports our families everyday.  Contact

Lockdown Video Messages for Communities

As part of the messaging on the national lockdown restrictions that came into place on Thursday 5 November, the Equalities and Inclusion Team at Bristol City Council have recorded video messages in six different languages (Polish, Punjabi, Somali, Bengali, Urdu and Arabic) that cover the current government guidance, the importance of adhering to the rules and also information on where to find additional support. You can access the videos via the council’s YouTube channel here.

Next week, Mr Bailey will be in touch with an idea for this term's "Community Day". Can you think of anyone in your community who might benefit from a friendly smile or a kind gesture? We are more than halfway through this second national lockdown - please continue to take care and look after each other.
