Friday 1st October 2021

It's a special day for Victoria Park Primary School today. Our school opened to it's first pupils on 1st October 1896, exactly 125 years ago. That makes today our 125th birthday! We will be marking the occasion with a whole school photograph (weather permitting!) in the playground, taken from above by a flying drone. Happy Birthday Vicky Park!

An important message from Mr Bailey

Please order a school meal next Thursday - we are having Fish and Chips! Watch this video to find out how this can help raise money for our school budget.

After School Clubs

We are pleased to get clubs up and running again after the enforced hiatus, and they were certainly very popular; all of the clubs were oversubscribed. We are sorry that not everybody was able to have a place in a club this time. A small number of spaces in each club (10%) are reserved for pupils eligible for Pupil Premium, which is part of our PP strategy. The remaining spaces are allocated randomly. For the next round of clubs, priority will be given to pupils who have not taken part in an after school club before. This will help to make sure as many children as possible get to take part in an after school club as the year progresses.

Vacancy

Would you like to work at Victoria Park Primary School? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Play Team member (lunchtime supervisor). Please click here for more information and how to apply.

Meeting for Year 1 parents and carers

The Year 1 team will be holding a meeting at 3.20pm on Tuesday 12th October to discuss the coming year. All Year 1 parents and carers are welcome, but if you cannot make it we will video the meeting so you can watch it at home. There will be a creche available.

Tag Rugby

We were greeted by sunshine, showers and a rainbow at Broadplain Rugby Club for the Ashton Park Sports Partnership Mixed Tag Rugby Tournament on Monday 27th September, where 20 teams from different schools in Bristol played short 8 minute matches. This was the first of four sessions.
Captain Charlie reported that, “The VPPS tag rugby team had an amazing start to the tournament as we won three out of four games. There were eleven of us from Year 5 and 6. We all had our own individual strengths and we worked well as a team which led to success in the first week. It was a lot of fun being part of the experience.”
At the end of the session, Captain Freya motivated and gave guidance to the team by saying, “We played a good couple of games but we need to work on our passing skills next week.”
It was fantastic to be back playing in a large sports tournament and we look forward to many more events like this.

Bristol Waste Nothing Schools Challenge

We are joining ‘The Zero-Wasters’ and taking part in the exciting Waste Nothing Schools Challenge run by Bristol Waste. The challenge is to encourage students and their families to reduce waste and recycle more by completing five challenges within the home. This challenge is a competition between schools within Bristol and our school is one of the lucky ones taking part. Our school could get a prize, so help us win by taking part and completing the challenges with your household. Dojo points, house points, marbles and kudos will be given out in class to pupils taking part and our green mascot Frankie Frog will get to stay with the class who complete the most missions!

Each student will be given a Waste Nothing Schools booklet on Monday 4th October. Please ensure the completed booklets are back with class teachers by Monday 18th October. As soon as you have completed your missions, you can bring your booklet back in. All you need to know is inside the booklet and additional help is on the Bristol Waste website! We can’t wait to hear about all your super green missions at home – please tweet your pictures to us @vppbristol

Roustabout Theatre

Pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 enjoyed an engaging theatre experience today, provided by Roustabout Theatre, who performed "This Island's Mine" by Toby Hulse. Set in the extraordinary world of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Roustabout present a playful and daring exploration of the place we choose to call home. Filled with magic, music and mayhem, this show explores themes of colonialism, identity and place, encouraging young people to ask: Where do I belong? Where is my home? Is it truly mine? Many thanks go to our PTFA for funding this performance and Cathedral Schools Trust Central Team for organising it for us.

You may have seen on Twitter that we welcomed Andy Day to Victoria Park Primary School this week. Children from across the school recorded the chorus for the new Andy and the Odd Socks track titled "One Kind Word", which will be this year's Anti Bullying Week song. Well done to everyone involved! We will share the track with you when it is mixed down and released. Here are a few photos from our day.
