Friday 1st July 2022

We are happy to share with you our classes for next academic year, and delighted to be welcoming three new teachers to Victoria Park Primary School. Miss Hannah Tucker will be joining us in Year 4, Mr Andy Kelly will be joining us in Year 5 and Miss Rachel Woolmer will be joining us in Year 2.

This morning you received an overview of the staffing structure for Reception through to Year 6, as well as which class is moving to which teacher. In Reception and Year 1, we will be mixing the classes, so further details and lists will be provided to these children and parents as soon as possible. In case you missed it, here is the letter again:

125 Year Anniversary

We are really looking forward to the celebrations we have planned next week to mark 125 years of Victoria Park School. The photograph above was taken on 1st October 2021, the exact date that the school opened in 1896. Here is what we have planned...

Our week will begin with a whole school Victorian Day on Monday 4th July.  We would encourage all children to dress up as a Victorian child for this day to mark the occasion.  Below is a photo for some inspiration.  Children who do not wish to dress up should come to school in uniform as normal.

Victoria Park Exhibition

During the week children in each year group will be learning about a different time period from the last 125 years.  This will culminate in an exhibition of Victoria Park through the Years on Friday afternoon.  If you have any old photos or stories to share if you came here, we would love to hear them.  Please email them to the office.

We would like to invite parents and carers to come in and view the exhibition and find out what the children have been learning about.  There will be a collection of art, music, photos and other exhibits for you to enjoy.  The school will be open from 2:15 - 3pm for this and the entrance will be the blue gates (exit gate usually) on Atlas road.

Whole School Picnic

We will be holding a whole school picnic on Friday lunchtime (weather pending) where all children will be eating together outside so that we can come together to celebrate our school.  Children who usually have a hot meal will be permitted to bring their food outside for this day so they don't miss out.  Classes will be eating together on the playground.  If you have a picnic blanket you would be willing to lend, please speak to your child's class teacher.

School Reunion

Finally, there is a school reunion being organised by an ex-pupil, Sue Warren, for people who have attended Victoria Park over the years.  It is taking place on Saturday 9th July from 4pm.  If you are keen to know more or would like to attend please contact Sue directly on the Victoria Park Old Timers part 2 group on Facebook.

Online Safety

Occasionally we share useful poster guides from National Online Safety with you. This week's guide is called "What Parents and Carers Need to Know About Minecraft". Please get in touch with your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns about their online safety.

Charity Bake Sale - Sunday 3rd July

Nyah, Elodie, Sophia and Zoe would like to invite you to their Bake Sale in aid of helpbristolshomeless.org which will take place this Sunday in Victoria Park. All cakes will be priced at 50p to £1. You will find the Cake Sale at the top of Victoria Park by the playground at 1pm. Please come to show your support for this charity by purchasing cupcakes, nutella fudge, lemon drizzle cake, flapjack, sponge cake, rice crispy cakes and cookies. Help Bristol's Homeless is a charity which holds regular events and meetings to help raise awareness of the homelessness situation in Bristol. They offer support to tackle issues such as rent arrears, benefit issues and social isolation. Help Bristol's Homeless believe that having a home is not an entitlement but a right, and that everybody should have the opportunity to live in a place they call their own.

Sports Days

Here is reminder of our upcoming sports days:

  • Tuesday 12th July - Sports Day for Reception (9.30am - 10.30am), Years 2 and 4 (10.30am - 11.30am), Year 1 and 3 (1.40pm - 2.40pm).
  • Thursday 14th July - Sports Day for Years 5 and 6 (9.30am - 11.30am).

Sports Days will take place at Broad Plain Rugby Pitches. Parents and carers are welcome to come and watch, cheer and encourage their children. Please talk to your child's class teacher if you are able to help with walking the class up to Broad Plain, and back to school afterwards. Pupils will take part in a range of events including races and field sports. In some of the events, pupils will win House Points, but our main aim is for children and spectators to have fun!

Children may come to school wearing their PE kit, and wear it all day. If they would like to, children may also wear a T-shirt in their own house colours (Red  for Campbell, Yellow for Aardman, Blue for Stephenson and Green for More.)

In the event of bad weather we may need to postpone or cancel the event. (Fingers crossed for sun!) We hope to see you there if you can make it.

Bristol Autism Team Support

For any children on the pathway to ASD diagnosis or if you need support with any children with ASD, the Bristol Autism Team are offering a number of courses. Please see the flyer below for details. If you have any questions or queries please contact Mrs Stirzaker (SENDCo).

Friends of Victoria Park Primary School

Save the date: the PTFA Summer Fair will take place on Sat 9 Jul from 12:00-2pm.

Volunteer Slots – we need loads of volunteers (both on Fri afternoon and on the day itself) to make the fair a success – even if you can only spare an hour, we’d be really grateful. To help us keep track of who’s volunteered it’s essential that you sign-up on our website! If we can’t fill all the slots then we’ll need to cancel some stalls to ensure that we’ve got coverage…

Cake and Bottles - On Fri 8 Jul we’ll be collecting…

  • Bottle donations (beer, wine, cider, spirits, mixers, etc.)
  • Donations of Cake

…you can drop off your donations at our collection point in the middle playground.

And finally, thank you to everyone who supported the fair by donating jolly jars and £1 for the non-school uniform day on Wednesday.

Take a look at these lovely pictures of our Green Team. The children  had a brilliant time adding some greenery to the playground last night at Eco Club. We bought two planters with our prize money from the Bristol Waste schools challenge and Riverside Garden Centre generously donated some sensory herbs, beautiful flowering plants for pollinators and lots of compost. We hope you enjoy watching them grow with us! Huge thanks to Riverside for their kindness and generosity. Have a lovely weekend.
