Friday 16th July 2021

This week, children have been celebrating their differences and learning about each other. On Monday, children explored the many different languages spoken by our school community, from Krio to Punjabi, Urdu to Latvian, Polish to Dhupadhola, and many more. Please watch our Welcome video below to hear some of the languages we learned together.

Hello and Welcome

As the week progressed, pupils and teachers explored where they are from and what it means to them. The various ways to express our identity were celebrated with our gallery at the end of the week. You can 'visit' the gallery by watching this virtual tour.

Finally, we have created this collaborative poem for you to enjoy. As you watch, why not ask yourself - where do you come from?

I Come From

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Survey

At Victoria Park Primary we are committed to celebrating diversity and ensuring that everyone in the school is treated fairly and respectfully. We want to hear from parents and carers about how well we meet this aim. We would really appreciate your responses to this survey to help us improve what we do for our school community.
Please follow the link to answer:

Please help by telling others about the survey.

Spare socks and tights

Do you have any socks or school tights which your child has grown out of? We always keep a supply in our medical room in case younger children have any accidents or get wet through play. We would be grateful to receive any donations, which you can drop off to the school office.

Eid celebrations

I know many of you are looking forward to celebrating Eid next week, on either Tuesday or Wednesday! Please telephone the school office and leave us a message if your child will be absent. In line with Bristol City Council guidance, we can authorise one day of absence for Eid celebrations.

A message from St Michael & All Angels Church

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, committed candidate to fill in the role of Scramblers Play Leader to start in September 2021. Scramblers On the Hill will be run by one paid leader and a group of volunteers.  The leader will be employed from 9am to 11.30am each weekday morning in term time only.

Scramblers On The Hill is a new toddler group which is operated and managed by St Michael’s Church in Windmill Hill, Bristol. Its aim is to bring local families together in a supportive, safe setting that provides play activities for babies and children aged 0-5. There is always a warming cuppa and a chat available in an environment which is sympathetic to Christian values. The ideal candidate will be acting as a representative of St Michael’s Church and will cooperate closely  with other representatives of the church. To request more details and express your interest please contact Sarah Yates: (07443 452 448)

The Colston Statue – What next?

This message is from Bristol City Council:
The statue of Edward Colston was pulled down on 7 June 2020 during a Black Lives Matter protest in Bristol. One year on, the statue now forms part of a new display at M Shed to start a city-wide conversation about its future. The statue is on display alongside a selection of placards from the protest as well as a timeline of key events leading up to 7 June 2020. Tell us what you think about what happened that day and what you think should happen next. This is an opportunity to have your say on how we move forward together. You can learn more and fill out the survey by checking out the online exhibition and the survey. Click here for more information.

School Picnic and AGM

We’ll be holding our Annual General Meeting at 4pm on Wed 21 July (the last day of term) in Victoria Park on the grass below the playground. We’ll provide some bubbly (and soft drinks for the kids) and the AGM itself will only take 10 minutes – so sit back, relax, and find out all about what the PTFA has been up to over the last 12 months! Why not bring a picnic and catch-up with fellow parents and friends afterwards?

For many years, we’ve been operating in accordance with the model constitution developed by ParentKind for PTFAs. However, we’ve been unable to find a record of the meeting at which this constitution was formally adopted – so we’re planning to use this AGM to put that right! You can download a copy of the model constitution from our website.

At the end of a challenging year, I would like to express my personal gratitude to every member of staff here at Victoria Park Primary School. This year has at times been tough, but never boring; tiring but never lacking in reward. I feel privileged to work with each of you, doing a job we all love.

This is our final whole school newsletter for this year. Children return to school on Monday 6th September 2021. To all the children, parents and staff - have a well-deserved and hard-earned summer break when it comes. I am looking forward to many more years of VPPS magic.
