Friday 14th January 2022

Welcome to this week’s newsletter – it has been a very busy week indeed here at Victoria Park Primary School!

A message from Mr Bailey - OFSTED

At the end of a busy week, I wanted to write to you personally about our OFSTED inspection. We were visited for two long days on Tuesday and Wednesday this week by one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI). This was called a “Section 8” inspection, and its purpose was to ascertain whether this school remains “Good” (which was the grading obtained in the last inspection, back in 2013). Clearly a lot has changed since the last inspection, and this was a great opportunity for us to show that to our visitor. As part of the inspection, HMI spent a long time talking to children from across the school about their learning, whether they feel safe, and what it’s like to be a pupil here. I must congratulate all the pupils who spoke to the inspector for their eloquence, confidence and courtesy. They are a credit to you. Thank you for your responses on “Parent View” about your experiences of school – we are grateful that you took the time to share your thoughts. It will be a number of weeks before we receive our OFSTED report. As soon as we do, we will share it with you.
My personal and heartfelt thanks go out to every member of our staff team – regardless of the role they play, everyone works tirelessly for the good of our children, and I'm hugely thankful and humbled by it. It is their combined effort and determination which makes our school what it is today.

New Reception places for 2022

Tomorrow is the deadline to apply for a place in Reception for September 2022 using the Bristol City Council application form on their website. Remember that you need to apply for a place even if you have a sibling at school already. There is more information provided in the flyer below.

What Parents Need to Know About TikTok

TikTok is a video-sharing social media app which lets people create, view and download looping 15-second clips. Typically, these are videos of users lip-syncing and dancing to popular songs or soundbites (often for comic purposes), enhanced with filters, effects and text. Designed with young people in mind, TikTok skyrocketed in popularity in 2019 and has featured near the top of download charts ever since. It now has around 1 billion active users worldwide. In this free online safety guide you will find tips on a number of potential risks such as age-inappropriate content, addiction and in-app spending.

We have seen an increase in COVID cases this week, in both pupils and staff. A lot of the cases have been without symptoms, so we would suggest that you test children using a Lateral Flow test at home over the weekend - if you are happy to do this. Thank you for continuing to keep children at home if they have any COVID symptoms. Have a lovely weekend.
