Friday 13th May 2022

It's been a busy and enjoyable week in school. Children in Year 5 spent three days and two nights on camp at Longtown Outdoor Learning Centre. This was the first opportunity for year five pupils to go a school camp, and they had an excellent time. Many thanks go to all the school staff who made camp possible, including those who stayed at school and those who went to Longtown. Children in Years 3, 4 and 6 have their residential camps coming up later this year.

Year 6 have thoroughly impressed everyone with their calm, determined and positive attitudes this week. They have completed their end of KS2 assessments (SATs)! This is the first year SATs have taken place in primary schools since 2019 and we can't wait to see how the children have done. We are very proud of the hard work of all year six pupils over the last year and their seven year journey through primary school.

Book of the week

This week’s recommendation is ‘Rapunzel’ by Bethan Woollvin. This is a pared back and twisted take on the traditional tale told with humour to be gleaned from reading the pictures. It begins with Rapunzel, here portrayed as a child, already encased in the tower without the back story explaining how she came to be there and reaches a conclusion in which she makes a joyful escape without the aid of a prince.

Walk to School Week

Next week is Walk to School week.  We would like to encourage the children to walk or scoot to school as much as possible next week. As part of this, we will be having a Happy Shoesday on Tuesday where children are invited to wear their favourite shoes or their craziest shoes to school for the day.  School uniform should still be worn.

125 Celebrations

This year we are celebrating 125 years of Victoria Park School.  We have some big plans for this in term 6 and more details will follow shortly.  We would like to hear from people who attended our school and who would be willing to share their memories with us.  If this is you, or you know anyone who has attended in the past, please email the school at with your name, contact details and the years in which you attended.  Likewise, if you have any photos of the school from the past that you would be happy to share we would welcome these too.

Schools Triathlon Success

Huey, Charlie, Eli and Theo from Year 6 entered the schools triathlon last week as ‘team victorious’. The event took place at Clifton College over the weekend. The boys did incredibly well coming 19th, out of 73 teams and raising £472 for charity. A great day was had by all. Well done boys!

Motherhood in a Climate Crisis: looking for storytellers! "We are a Bristol-based group exploring how the climate crisis impacts our decisions about motherhood. Would you welcome being part of a group of women exploring this issue and telling your story? We invite you to share your stories with us in a supportive and creative environment. Please see the flyer below for more details about how to get involved."

We are looking forward to "Charity Week" in school next week. You may receive some communication from the children about their charity week sale, so please look out for that. If you can come to the sale, we will be asking for exact change only because we do not keep loose change in school. (We will also be adding donation options to the School Gateway App if you prefer to be cashless!) Children may provide you with suggested amounts to pay - although any donation of any size is always welcome. We know that money is tight for a lot of people at the moment so would encourage you to donate only if you can afford to. Have a lovely weekend!
