Welcome!

Welcome to our first “mobile friendly” newsletter! We know that many of you read the school newsletter on your phone, so by hosting the newsletter on a webpage like this, it should be easier to read on any device.  Bear with us as we try something new - if the formatting goes awry, rest assured we will gradually make improvements.  Did you know you can also translate our web pages into any language using the “Google Translate” function?  We hope this means that nobody will miss out on the information we are sending you.  Today’s newsletter contains some important information and news about picking up children, secondary school applications, PE kits, lunches and more...

Baby news!

Congratulations to Mrs Vaughan on the birth of her son, Brodie, who was born on 29th July.  The whole family are well and enjoying their time together.

Secondary School Applications - Apply by 31st October

Believe it or not, now is the time for Year 6 pupils and families to be thinking about applying for secondary school!  The deadline for applications is 31st October. Occasionally, the local secondary schools contact us with information about their open days (which are likely to be online this year), so we will forward them to you as they come in.  You can also look at the websites of schools you may be interested in for more details.

The best way to apply is online at https://www.bristol.gov.uk/schools-learning-early-years/school-admissions
On-line is the preferred method of application because:

  • The system helps applicants by checking for errors.
  • There is no risk that applications will be lost in the post.
  • It is quick and easy to do.
  • Applicants will receive an immediate email confirming that their application has been received.
  • Applicants will receive email notification of the outcome of their application.

Please get in touch with your class teacher if you need help with the application - if you do not have access to the internet or a computer at home, we may be able to do this with you.  Click on the document below to see the Secondary Admissions Flyer.

Picking up Years 5 and 6

Our new one-way system is working brilliantly! If you are collecting pupils from playground 3, please do not wait by the exit on Atlas road.  You should walk around to the Raymend Road gate, walk through the playgrounds and collect your child from their pick up location.  For all parents and carers - please keep moving away from the exit on Atlas Road.  We must keep this clear to enable essential social distancing and keep everyone safe.

Bristol’s Response to Confirmed Cases in Schools

You may have heard through the media that there have been some confirmed cases of COVID-19 in some schools in Bristol.  We are pleased that the media has also reported the necessary precautions that schools have taken to keep everyone safe, which includes closing certain classes or year groups and asking those pupils to stay at home.  If a member of our school community is confirmed positive for COVID-19, we will telephone our local branch of Public Health England and follow their advice.  Our understanding is that this has happened effectively and swiftly so far.  We will use all means of communication at our disposal to inform you if we need to take action (such as closing a year group), so please make sure the office have your most up-to-date phone numbers and email addresses on record.

PE Kits

At the moment, children do not need a PE kit in school.  However, please make sure that the shoes they wear are suitable for running around outside.  If necessary, children can wear trainers on their designated PE days.  We will review this approach over the coming weeks and let you know about any changes.

Lunches

Our new lunch meal provider “Innovate” is currently offering a temporary menu, in order to manage risk. The main benefits of this menu is that service time is reduced (no waiting in line) and the use of cutlery and plates is avoided (which means no washing up).  Over the coming weeks we aim to work with Innovate to gradually increase the number of hot options on the menu, eventually working towards a full school menu.  The sample menu sent out earlier in the term caused some confusion and I can reassure you that vegetarian and Halal diets will be fully catered for.   Thank you for your patience as we experienced technical difficulties with the ordering and paying system.

SEND

We have received this letter from Vicky Ford MP (parliamentary under-secretary of state for children and families) to children and young people with SEND, their families and carers, and those who work to support them. Please click the link to read it.
